Here is a Battle of Britain scenario that i have came up with.
you would need 4 map sheets set up in a square with the large forest areas in opposite corners. One forest area represents Britain the other represents France. The lighter land area represents the channel.
Aircraft:
Britain:
3 hurricane Mk1
3 Polish hurricane Mk1
Germany:
2 109E Ace
2 109E wingman
2 HE111 (use stats from the rule book)
Set up:
The British player selects 3 hexes to act as targets. The German side then chooses 1 of the target hexes to attack with the bombers. The British sets up over Britain and the Germans set up over France. The game ends when the last German bomber is shot down or retreats off the map on the French side of the channel.
Major British Victory: Shoot down both German bombers before they get to their target.
Major German Victory: Both bombers leave the map on the French side of the channel
To determine victory tally the points of planes shot down. Planes that retreat off a friendly side of the map cost half points.
Pilot survival rules are optional: Planes shot down over friendly territory, and the pilot survives, cost half the points. |

What about the bomb loads? At my old wargames club we used to use 1/72 aircraft on three foot high poles and moves of 30 inches for 300 mph, etc. Turning circles for curved turns and rolling percentage dice for the hits and effect of hits.
The attacking side would score points for bombs dropped while the defenders could score points for bombs NOT dropped on the target.
In your scenario I would suggest roll one d6 for each bomber on the move it passes over the target. The points it scores are the bomb damage on target/Victory points value.
If a bomber is shot down (not just flown off) then the defenders get to roll the same bomb die provided the aircraft's bombs were never dropped on the target.
This rule emphasises the need to get the bomber BEFORE it bombs the target, not afterwards. The defenders might otherwise be tempted to tangle with the fighters first and then pick the bombers off on their way out. _________________ 'Master and Commander' afloat on the seas of life... and now engaged to Stephanie! |
