Post subject: French plan to convert Jean Bart to CV
|
|
|
Believe it or not there was a plan for this to happen. I you are like me you will have to copy/paste into Google to translate but apparently the French knew Germany was going to make a move soon and a number of different plans were discussed, including converting the incomplete Jean Bart to a CV. It would be along the lines of the Illustrious class with a smaller capacity but well armoured. If I am reading it right (and if anyone reads fluently you may find flaws in translation) they planned on, or were in the process, of purchasing a number of aircraft and ships from the U.S. and U.K. They already had the F4F's onboard the Bearn when France surrendered. It makes for a very interesting read.

| The site is fiction made by a fan of WWII, this is not based on a historical plan. |

Post war I believe there were ideas to convert Jean Bart to manythings, CV being one of them. (Anti Air battleship beign another)
During the war I know of this conversion
For a hybrid, it really isn't that bad of a design. The Richelieus were pretty speedy so a short flight deck wouldn't have hampered them so much. But even the flight deck here is pretty long (for a hybrid) Wide too, and clear of obstructions (except the Bridge)

Damn! Figures it was a fiction site. That's what I get for posting a link to a site I can't really understand. Oh, well. At least it may provide some interesting reading for foruminians. Well .... now what? .... we have how long to the next set? .... |

| He does cite a print source for his information. I've been unable to locate a copy of it anywhere. Perhaps that is the "fiction" of the website referred to above. |

Verry Funny! I really wanted to believed that what was written there was true. But at one point, I just gave up. When I read that the Vittorio Venneto was sunk by the Provence, an old WW1 french battleship, that was too much for me. It's after that that I read that it was all fiction . Very imaginative those guys ! _________________ A&A minis base set: 48/48

| One of the three proposals for completing the Jean Bart is to use the 340mm guns recovered from the Provence, currently under repair after its battle with the Vittorio Veneto. No mention of it sinking the Vittorio. |

If you know me, you'll know I have a disdain for links pointing to something hugely relevant to the current thread. One of those, look here so you know what i'm talking about links. Those plans come from that link in the original post, I just saved you the extra step.
Its okay to use the internet folks, there is an edit button if it doesn't work the first time.
