Post subject: tw252's German Field Officers Reply with quote
In English-speaking armies, it is field officers; in the German Army, it is Stabsoffizier; in the French Army, it is senior officer. They all mean the same thing: officers with the ranks from major to colonel in the army or LtCdr to Cpt in the navy.

The commanders in the game are NCOs, Lts, Cpts. The generals are covered by the Forumini Generals. But the field ranks/grades are not. And there are some interesting personalities deserve to be covered. So I will make them and post them in this thread. Cards will follow after I have managed how to do them. Suggestions are extremely welcome.

For a start, here are two well known SS officers:

Otto Skorzeny
Bio: Skorzeny carried out special operations behind enemy lines, notably the rescue of Mussolini and during the Battle of the Bulge.
Chaos behind enemy lines: This player's opponent gain -1 initiative.
Indirect: This card must be used in conjunction with another field officer or a Forumini General.

Joachim Peiper
Bio: Peiper spearheaded the 6th Panzer Army during the Ardennes Offensive of 1944.
Veteran: This player's tanks and tank destroyers gain the SA "Veteran Crew".
Poor Chief: This player gain -1 initiative.

I intend the cards to be compatible with the Forumini Generals. Yes, you can use both in a game.

Hmm...I love Pieper, from a gaming prespective (vets FTW!), and I usaly lose initiative anyway. SS-Haups could fix that though...

Thanks Steel Panther!

I forgot to mention in my first post that some of the field officers function like the forumini generals--they command troops. Some of the field officers do not command troops. They provide other benefits.

Now Skorzeny is modified as:
Operation Behind Enemy Lines: Roll a die. On a roll of 1 the operation is a complete disaster and you lose 2d6 of points. On a roll of 6 the operation is a success and you get 2d6 of points. On a roll of 2-4, no effect.

Skorzeny's achievements do not affect the battlefield directly, hence the change.

What about instead of these guys being played alone they must be played under a generals command. Like for example Joachim Peiper would be able to be under Dietrich,Manstein,Hoth,Von Kluge or Model.

Your idea is sound. But currently the project is not linked to the Forumini Generals and I plan to give the minors, who might not have generals, field officers that would help them. So for the time being, they can be played independently.

Enlightened by nomad, now the field officers are redesigned as cards that you have to pay with your points.

The two SS officers redesigned:

Otto Skorzeny
Cost: 7
Type: Field Officer-Special
Bio: (unchanged)
Chaos Behind Enemy Lines: Roll 2d6 and get that many points.

Joachim Peiper
Cost: 10
Type: Field Officer-Field Commander
Bio: (unchanged)
Spearhead Commander: One of this player's King Tiger gains the SA "Overrun", +3 initiative and the Command Ability "Command Ruthless".

Looks good, I think you should change the breakdown name to either armor or airborne or infantry or artillery.

and for skorzeny maybe try letting him drop para's adjacent to the enemy as long as they drop with the unit he is attached to.

Further revision:
Otto Skorzeny
Cost: 10
Type: Field Officer-Special
Bio: (unchanged)
Chaos Behind Enemy Lines: choose either one:
a. Set one SS-HSF aside. He may paradrop. This player's paratroopers may drop adjacent to enemy units if they drop together with this SS-HSF.
b. Set one SSPG aside. Once per game, during your assault phase, exchange one enemy soldier with that SSPG.

Joachim Peiper
Cost: (unchanged)
Type: Field Officer-Armour
Bio: (unchanged)
Spearhead Commander-unchanged

I decide to bring Skorzeny in line to others.
