Post subject: Question #08 [Correct answer by EvilKobra] Reply with quote
The United States Navy names its destroyers and the occasional aircraft carrier or submarine after important historical personages.  Most of these ships are named after a single person but a few are named after more than one (the USS Lewis and Clark, for instance).   Name four United States Navy ships named after more than one person from the WWII era (though only one of these ship fought in WWII).

All sources seem to suggest the only case of this happening during the WWII period was USS The Sullivans (DD537)...

Wait, which of these do you mean?

Ships from the WWII era named after more than one person

or...

Ships (from any era) named after more than one person from the WWII era

The ships can be from any era, but the people they are named for are all from the WWII era.

Found the fourth:

USS The Sullivans (DD537)
USS The Sullivans (DDG-68)
USS Roosevelt (DDG-80)
USS Kauffman (FFG-59)

We have a winner!

Actually, that fourth one wasn't the one I had in mind (I was thinking of USS John McCain, named for John S. McCain Sr. and John S. McCain Jr.) but Kauffamn was indeed named for two people, so she is a correct answer.
