Post subject: Would you have chosen your fleet differantly?

Looking at some peoples fleets i have noticed some have not used segments of there fleets. One thing i have noticed is the lack of offesive planes but loads of fighters for defence. _________________

Had I known the format ahead of time and the schedule of games, I would have chosen somewhat differently.
Being that this was the first tournament I signed up for though, it's not a big deal but in hindsight, I would have done things quite a bit differently actually. Add in that, at the time, set II had just come out and I don't think everyone knew what a tremendous boost certain fleets would get and how some units even worked.
I chose the only Japanese fleet that has a chance of winning anything- huge battleships, submarines, fighters for defense, and some Long Lance torpedoes.
As with any fleet, the US fleets get to add more for their 400 points, adding San Francisco and a few very cool destroyers is no big deal. Adding a couple Hellcats is a bargain for 20-30 points since you will only need 2-3 of them for the entire tournament. I'm getting on a rant here obviously but one good thing is to see that there are still several Axis fleets hanging around. _________________

Yes, I would have chosen a few more destroyers! In the early games a lot of players lost a lot of screening vessels... this hurt!
Thanks to Aquarius and his little round 4 gift of 50pts of resurection fodder this has been offset somewhat... In hindsight i would have left the 2nd sharnhorst and the 2nd hipper at home and taken 4 more gasters and a kondor or three for asw work. The early matches were Sub battles with a few exceptions, just what to expect in low point games but we had no clear guide, I would not have altered my sub group but ,like i said, i would have loaded up on more asw assets. _________________ (TF57... This tournament definitely lacked clear rules and no one knew what to expect at the beginning. _________________ I have to make a new sig because my old one is too wide for this new look... |

hey... the Italian W.A.S fleet is hardly a non-entity, save carriers they have all they need to be competative... and with the sav's and stuka's there air strike potential is better then germanys and have a fighter as good as the Rn's (cough!).
I was tempted to go with a Italian fleet, the only thing that stopped me was knowing that the USN hellcats would soon arrive in set II and would clear the skys anyway of anything short of 109's, that avengers neaded 109's, and that there would be a LOT of IJN Super heavy BB's that would require a reliable sub force to cull.
If the italians get Roma and a repaint 109 for their very own it will dramatically change the perception of Italy in the minds of players, in fact it will cease to be a minor!
Now where ae those maps? _________________ (TF57... British Pacific Fleet 1944-45)
