If you want, it can be considered official olympic quiz question. If it's difficult enough and not easily googlable, I'll move it there. _________________

People have PM'd me asking if this is some sort of trick question; It is not. A vessel actually took out a tank on land with a torpedo. _________________

That would've been HMS Safari then, under Cdr Ben Bryant.

I think you found it
"An interesting aside is that Cdr Bryant once deliberately set a torpedo to run shallow, and hit a German tank unloading on a beach in North Africa!"

| This is correct, this scenerio even made it into a movie. Carry Grant spoted a IJN oil tanker and sank a truck! Sea movie pink submarine. Well worth watching if for no other reason then that! |

| Correction: The Movie was "Operation Petticoat" with Cary Grant and Tony Curtis. "Father Goose" was the movie where Cary Grant played a drunken American boat captain who was tricked into becoming Austrialian Coastwatcher by Leslie Howard. Both were a riot!!! |
