Post subject: Texas_Archer's unit reviews and tactics: Polish Army
|
|
|
At the request of members of the forum, I will begin a in depth look at each country and give specifics for each unit as well as tactics to use when playing with these armies. Just as a minor background, I have been playing AAM since the end of set I. Through the many games I have fought, large and small, I have seen pretty much every unit made and have seen their stregnths and weaknesses. I am beginning the reviews with the Polish Army, one of my favorite of the Minor Nations. By the way, if ND or any of the other mods could tell me how to put links to these in my sig, I would really appreciate it. On to the good stuff....
Polish Amry:
4 units: 3 infantry, one vehicle
Polish Mauser Kar 98: 3 pts
This unit is basically a Polish variant of the german mauser. Like most of the nations basic infantry, they are pretty decent in attacks as well as point cost. the close assault 6 also allows these units to have a good chance to disrupt/damage defense 4 and less tanks (Pnzr 4, Panther, Sherman, all using rear armor) An all around good unit, versitile in attack as well as defense.
Determined Infantrymen: 4 pts
This unit is the cream of the Polish crop, the best of the best, in my opinion. At 4 pts, you get an infantry that fires good dice at range, has steely resolve 2 for added toughness, and a close assault 6 that can change a way the enemy uses their armor. These guys are very good at attacking the enemy, the steely resolve allows them to potentialy survive against better units and can fight for the objective. one of the best infantry of any of the minor nations.
Cavalrymen: 4 pts
The Cavalrymen is a great unit for those who like hit and run tactics. Some of the best ways I have seen them used is when the enemy is occupied elsewhere, allowing it to take out those pesky Ammo dumps, 88's, pak 40's, and others. The speed 4 is huge for this unit, allowing them to go anywhere around the battlefield quickly. Their only real weakness lies in their 3/3 defense. they should not be used in the front lines unless it is a last resort. If they are put toe to toe against the enemy, get up close and personal, so the HTH 9 can help you take out infantry.
7TPdw: 8 pts
The 7TPdw is essentially a polish variant of the British vickers 6 ton tank. With average speed and below average defense (2/2) they are not best suited for attacking other armor. their versatility lies in their ability to mow down infantry with their "All Guns Blazing" SA, Allowing them to potentially take out 2 soldiers a turn. I have found, however, that these little guys are very adept at taking out enemy halftracks and other support vehicles. In this role, they can wipe out more points than their own cost, allowing you to potentially survive the fight on the winning side. at 8 points, this unit is cheap. fielding a few of these is definately worth it in an early war scenerio. By 1942, the American/British Stuart becomes a better choice. _________________ GTL + 32 (Old boards)

A great review! Do you have any all Polish (or mostly Polish) army suggestions?
By the way, I've found that the best use of the Polish Cavalry is a sniper hunter. A pair of them can easily take out a pesky wehrmacht elite sniper and then go on to harass the enemy and take out mortars, ammo dumps and so on. |

Excellent Review, keep It up.
But I'll do the Romanian one if you don't mind
Some Suggestions to the Polish player is to use some RING INs
French R35 (so you have a gun tanks)
Russian Maxim MMG
Russian 82mm mortar
Russian AT Rifle
Hungarian 37mm ATG as Bofors ATG
The Poles are playable with these Historical Additions. _________________

Nice review.
BTW Russian 82mm mortar and Russian AT Rifle are not "historical", because there were other models (resp. copy of Brandt 81 mm mortar and AT rifle wz35). But, with some simplification, it's o.k.
+ you may use BAR gunner as license-build Browning
+ they used Bofors 40 mm AA gun as well
+ Chinese MG is a Schwarlose model, usable for czech and polish army (as panzerpainter already discovered ) _________________

| R-35's are a must if Poland is going to be competitive even in scenarios vs. Germany. Close Assault is a nice backup plan, but it can't be the only thing you have prepared to deal with enemy AFV's. |

you could also proxy some T-26 tanks as the 7TP tank with the 37 MM turret. If you use the chinese one, delete the negative SA. _________________ GTL + 32 (Old boards)

proxy:
L3/35 as TK/TKS tankette
these tankettes were more abundant than any of the other tanks mentioned.
there were not many but here is another proxy:
Japanese tankette as TKS with 20mm cannon

Good reviews. Also Poland had some Bofor AA gun if you want to play that army in a competitive way. I like the idea of the Tks proxies. _________________

I fear not; they were ordered, but not sold before the start of WWII. Here is the complete list of polish army vehicles for 1939 campaign (page is polish, but images are universal):
