Quote:
1. Introduction
Operation Silver Fox is semi-fictional scenario placed in the background of the Barbarossa invasion plan of the USSR by the Axis powers. The action takes place in late 1941- beginning 1942, near the Finish / Norvegian - Soviet border, in the Kola Peninsula.
The village of Zapolyarny, formerly under Finland authority but lost after the “Winter War” of 1939-1941, is a vital strategic point, an intersection point of the few Kola Peninsula roads and railroads and a vital node in the Soviet supply lines in the North, linking the ports from the Barents Sea to the major towns in the North East as Leningrad.
Zapolyarny is set to be the first major encounter between the “far north” armies of the Axis and the Soviets.
A Panzer Division codenamed "Arctic Force" is created in great secrecy from German troops present in Norway, along with Finish elements. The Final Objective of the Arctic Force is to outflank the soviet ports to the Barents Sea which were the main gates to the Allied convoys and disrupt their activity. To achieve this Objective, all Soviets forces present in the Kola Peninsula must be eliminated.
The success of the Operation would influence directly the Leningrad Siege and would place the North and North-West part of the USSR under German occupation.

Quote:
2. Axis Objective
- Capture the village of Zapolyarny (cross-road and depot), under Soviet Occupation with the help of the Finnish Army Elements deployed in the South, part of the “Arctic Force”. A German Panzer division will approach from the East to assist with the encirclement.
- Once captured, hold Zapolyarny at all costs, while capturing the Gora Tardenoayvi mountains. Finally continue to the Gora Isonkiventunturi Pass, and then towards Murmansk.

Quote:
3. Soviet Objective
Intelligence informs that Axis forces under German Command entered the Kola Peninsula from Finland with the main goal of capturing the Murmansk port. Before reaching Murmansk it is believed that the village of Zapolyarny will be a prime target. Hence, Axis forces will be engaged near Zapolyarny which is garrisoned by reserve soviet forces.
The area around Zapolyarny must not be lost definitively to the Axis invaders due to its vital importance to our supply lines. The Soviet Army will enter the area from the North East through the Gora Isonkiventunturi Pass, a route that the Axis troops may not expect. Once deployed, you may cut off the Germans from behind continuing South through the mountains or you can choose to take the roads leading into Zapolyarny.  It is believed that the Finnish elements will prove a formidable opponent since the area belonged previously to Finland.
Do not lose control over the Gora Isonkiventunturi Pass, thus enabling the Axis forces to advance towards Murmansk.

Quote:
Scenario details: to be posted.

Yellow hexes: deep snow - must succeed movement roll in order to be able to move; if movement roll is successful, you may move at will.
Orange hexes: town.
Grey hexes: hills.
Blue line: road axis.
Grey line: frozen streams, valleys, difficult terrain - must succeed movement roll to pass.

We'll need some alpine troops for this one. Cool

Great map again. I'm in!

Also i'm thinking of using the map from op. adjacent for a future scenario. Cool

About Operation Adjacent - France 1940

I have in mind to revise again that scenario as soon as I have "available" the info for the Early War units.

It would be great to have another scenario based on the Bethemont map. Are you far from this town actually?

Yes, way up North.

It's a great map too. i realised this while playing on your Kursk one. Wink

Still busy with Kursk, but i'm really thinking of using this map as a scenario base.

Kursk is more of a simple map, since there is so much open space, the Bethemont map (FRA40, Op. Adjacent) is more spectacular since it has all those forests and a little open spaces here and there also.

You have my first ever map - so to speak - the version one of Bethemont. Right now, this map reached its 4th version, its complete (the original had a little missing terrain on one of the sides), it has the new hexes on it so you cannot mistaken anymore what a hex represents, no more google earth half "stickers" here and there... it's more or less the same map, but with some major improvements. Also it comes in 4 separate sheets, just like kursk. And if you put on these maps 3D terrain as trees for example, they look spectacular! Take my word!

But I believe this "Snow 2" map, since it has no official name yet, will be my best map yet. Tobruk looks very nice, will all the desert and the port, Leningrad map is a grim map actually, has a dark feeling to it, you can feel there will be a bloodbath, New Guinea map tells you to play the japanese by looking at it, but this map here... this should be my best yet. Still have to put the hexes on it...

Of course and you are welcome. It's fun doing the maps, more fun doing the scenarios though.

Updated the 1st post - hit refresh.

Posted the "Introduction" and "Objectives" part of the scenarios. Remains to be posted the "Army Builds" and "Scenario Plot".

As you can see already, the Axis players will start divided trying to conquer the village with it's 2 objectives (cross-road and depot). If that is managed, some reinforcements will activate. After the Village is conquered (holding the objective hexes, marked with "X"), for the Axis remains to conquer the Mountain Objective and then proceed to the Pass where, in order to win the Game will need to place 2 units, one in each objective hex.
Meanwhile, the Soviet players are also split. One will try to hold out as much as he can in the town (surrendering the town would only activate faster the Axis reserves), while the other will deploy in the Pass and start thinking about a route out of the Pass and towards the Enemy.

I am thinking about creating the Axis reserves (that will activate if objectives are conquered) out of Romanian, Italian and Hungarian units. That would spice up the scenario.

The Finns will have a sort of special ability called "Patriotic War" that will enable them to ignore a hit if they are already Disrupted.

The Soviets coming from the North will have maybe Low Morale (as in the Operation Adjacent for the French), meaning they will reroll a die of 4 if that is a success while attacking. The Soviet Reserves that guard the Village may receive "Lack of Equipment" (again as in Operation Adjacent for the Poles), meaning that if they roll two or more 6s in the attack phase, one will be disregarded.

About the Terrain, Heavy Snow (yellow hexes) will be a pain to go across, since I am thinking of imposing a movement roll before moving. If the movement roll is successful you can move at full speed, if not, you may not move (blocked in the snow).

You could treat "Heavy Snow" like the Jungle terrian hexes: soldiers can only enter in assault phase and can only move 1 hex.--change soldiers to units.

This will also not bog down a game with needless die rolls...just a thought

like your maps by the way.

Forgot to say that all suggestions are more than welcomed!

Thanks for the suggestion Carrion.

After I will sort up the Army Builds, I should decide how to treat "Heavy Snow", Objectives and Special Abilities for this scenario. It would be preferred to avoid "extra rolls" in certain cases but I like the "random factor" they give. If you play the Soviets and decide to move from North to South (from the Pass) across the mountains, heavy snow may or may not affect you... that is a thing I like. Or you may decide to go East to West so there is clear terrain but, a longer route to the town...

I shall see what to make of it.

I have though one problem: it would really help to know the stats of the Early War units (especially Finns) since they will play a part in this scenario!

Updated the first post with some diorama pics for "the people" in order to see a little this map. Hit refresh.

One thing I have noticed: if one plays pieces with camo on this map, you might not see them once they are deployed. Some of them blend 100% in the map! See the pics for yourself.

If you keep making such great looking maps like this I'm changing my name to "SometimesMoreHexes"  Wink  This map looks 'alive' and you're exactly right about the camo blending just like it should - looks downright freezingly 'cool'!  Very Happy

Last update for now for Operation Silberfuchs ... a few new pics (I know those are the best propaganda) from a playtest I did.

The rest of the scenario (Army Builds, Plot) will be posted after the release of Early Was set. This is because I want to avoid working two times on this scenario, first making a variant and after a month revising it with new units that become available.

Until then... happy winter Wink
