It has a square shape, gren borders, top says war at sae, bottom says starter set, contains 8 minatures, cover has picture of six minatures on a map says two player starter set,new tokens, i think one or two subs, The picture was small, islands may be 3D. |
Too small to guess at the ships and aircraft? |

Axis & Allies Naval Cmg War At Sea Starter Set
Axis & Allies Naval Cmg War At Sea Starter Set is an Urban Collector pre-order. All hands on deck! Featuring expanded rules for night fighting and weather conditions, this revised edition of the fast-paced and action-packed WWII naval miniatures game allows players to recreate historical battles or go head-to-head in tactical naval warfare that rages across massive 30' x 40' battle maps. Each two-player set includes complete rules, a battle map, dice, counters, and eight historically accurate, pre-painted, plastic miniatures which showcase units like the USS Montpelier, TBF-1 Avenger aircraft, HMAS Nizam, and the IJN Haguro.[/img] _________________

Wow! I would be very close on my prediction if this is true. I got three out of the four remaining. I missed the Sub/Fletcher for the Allies. I may not have the named ship correct, but I got the class. Again, if I am interpreting the photo correctly. Those last two DD's are hard to see.
From my earlier 'set 4 to 10' thread:
"Here is my guess on the starter. But really, the choices for sister ships are enormous. My guess is there will be an airplane, sub, cruiser (already revealed) and a destroyer (or at least one unit with ASW) on each side so you could actually play a small game right out of the box. This is what they did for the second starter in the land game.
New Starter
*USS Montpelier - Cleveland Class CL reprint - U
*HMAS Nizan - Javelin DD reprint - C
*TBF1 Avenger - Avenger reprint - C
HMS Taurus - Truculent submarine reprint - C
*Haguro - Myoko CA reprint - R
G4M2 Betty - reprint - U
Samidare - Shiratsuyu class DD - (Shigure reprint) - C
I37 - B1-class submarine I-19 reprint - C
*Already revealed by WotC" _________________

RB said in a blog that to cut cost down a bit the islands are a bit different. Instead of having separate islands, they are now printed right on the map. You can flip the maps over to match up different sides making slightly different map configurations to play on. So, while the island shapes are probably new, I don't think they'll have new islands. _________________

I fixed the image. I had USS Nashville instead of USS Montpelier. Oops.
I am personally hoping to see USS Mullany!
But it is probably USS The Sullivans. That would be okay too. _________________

only the Haguro is a piece of interest. Okay, a new map and markers are a good idea. But why is there a new Avenger in this set? |
I am hoping it is a 'toned down' TBF1 Avenger. This was the first production model and there was a squadron of them on Midway Island during the Battle of Midway.
By the same token, I am hoping that is indeed a Betty and is an improved G4M2 or G4M3. I think those two aircraft would be the most interesting units in the starter if so. They would also raise the issue of how many starters to buy because those aircraft would be in very high demand. _________________
