Here is my USS Indianapolis scratchbuild thus far. I used spare Bolzano turrets with new gun barrels... almost perfect for the pre-war USN heavy cruiser look, and a few gun tubs from a Richelieu. Funnels are from what was left of a Gulio Cesare, and I may use the aircraft from a chopped up Tone on her. Otherwise a lot of work left to do.

You know I thought so too (until I did the research) thinking I could convert the San Francisco figure. However they really arent close at all... they just share post catapults somewhere amidship with a break in superstructure. The Portlands owe more to the Pennsacola and Northampton than they do the San Francisco. Its amazing what you learn building these things... after all the history and tragedy surrounding the USS Indianapolis... I sorta took the ship's design and look for granted, assuming she was "just another USN heavy cruiser". I was shocked to find out how different the Portland's were when compared to the San Francisco's. I just got learned!
San Francisco type Heavy Cruiser.
Portland type Heavy Cruiser.

| WOW, The Uss Portland, and her sister Indiannapolis are on the top of my want list. My avatar over on Wotc is the Portland, I just love both these cruisers, and as per usual your work looks absolutely amazing. I certainly hope we get both of them at some point in the game. They both saw a lot of action in the war. |

I like it. Looks good so far. And to a dummy like me, I don't see how you would be able to do much more to it. Granted you and the rest of the Moddeling Kings on here always amaze me with the amount of detail that you somehow manage to cram onto all of your ships! Looking forward to seeing some paint on it. _________________ Take a peek at my tradelist:

She's done. Ink wash is fresh so she looks a lot more "sooty" than she will.

I'm curious, is there a material reason why you couldn't get that sexy 'atlantic' bow on the model? As it is, the bow looks like the San Francisco.
Thats really my only petty issue with it, everything else looks good.
