Post subject: conflict of Heroes or Memoir 44?
|

What game would you recommend?
I already have battlelore and I am told the mechanics are quite similar for M44
I know CoH (as mentioned in a thread below this one) uses card board chits, I don't really care, just want a fun easy to understand rule set that has good replay value.
If I want to use minis I guess I can always adapt my own shhhhhtuff to it.
is there a point system in Conflict of Heroes? _________________ Always Flying. Always Fighting. RIP JIMMY.

I own memoir, its very popular in france but i'm not too keen on it.
As for conflict, havent found it yet but it looks great.
From my informations i would say that memoir would be more simple and uses minis while conflict looks more like a streamlined and upgraded squad leader with great looking maps. _________________

'44s exactly the same, only with WWII units. _________________

Here's a recent thread on Conflict of Heroes:
http://aaminis.myfastforum.org/about9758.html
Memoir is similar to Battlelore. They are both by the same designer and are both part of the Command and Colors series of games. The rules are very similar and Battlelore actually has a few additional nice rules compared to Memoir '44.
Conflict of Heroes is in my opinion awesome but it is closer to an old school hex n counter wargame so you'll have to decide if that is what you are looking for. I think in the above thread I provided a link to a PDF of the rules. Download them and look them over first and see if the game is for you. _________________ Trade List at:

I know, as I mentioned it in my post.

Again, I mentioned that in my post.

As I said in my most, I am fully aware of no minis, and do not care as I am looking for a fun new system to play. _________________ Always Flying. Always Fighting. RIP JIMMY.

Does M44 use bazooka units, something similar to AAM?
or is there a variety of units like AAM
BAR gunners, bazookas, MGs, M1s, etc.
Battlelore has a nice variety of various weapons, bows, cross bows, spears, swords, etc. _________________ Always Flying. Always Fighting. RIP JIMMY.

Memoir uses no specific units. The only units are generic infantry, artillery and tanks. That's it. The only exception is one stand alone scenario that you can buy that comes with a half dozen Tiger tanks. Battlelore has more different unit types. _________________ Trade List at:

I wasn't referring to the fact it has no minis, more to the level of difficulty of the game. You mentioned wanting a fun easy to understand rule set that has good replay value. In my opinion the game is a blast but that's just an opinion. Easy to understand is also understood differently depending on the person. Compared to the old Squad Leader and many other old school wargames CoH is probably easier to understand and teach. Compared to Battlelore CoH is probably a couple steps up in complexity. Get the PDF of the rules and see if it fits what you are looking for. As for replayability, I'd say it's quite good. Keep in mind that this is a scenario driven game. The game comes with nine different sccenarios and more are available on the publishers website. _________________ Trade List at:

I also own both games, all the Mémoir '44 extension, but they all gather dust since Early 2008.
Now, I am at my 15th game of COH and making adjustment to mini's. Since I own the Hotzmat 2" and 3" maps I can reproduce the scenario included in both Booklet of COH games.
If you want to go with COH, I suggest that you pick the second box, CoH: Storms of Steel. All the rules have been upgraded and are more fluid in the making.
With CoH: SoS you get many tanks and infantry from both German and SS formation, plus a nice variety of Russian troops. Not everything is there, but what was the most frequently use in Kursk.
My technique to use minis is simple. I got one tank, lets say a Panzer IV Ausf. G, that stand on the table, and the chit is under. The other variant is 2 Pz IV Ausf. G, on on the table free of chits, the second aside but visible for both players, sitting on the chits information. Whenever I activate the unit, on board or aside, I put the chit counter on top of the tank and flip it over whenever the unit have spent is Action Points. _________________ Remember-OWS-

I was wondering which is the better of the two CoH games released so far:
Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear
Conflict of Heroes: Storms of Steel _________________ James 1:17

I remember hearing/reading that Memoir 44 with the Air Expansion is a totally different game than Memoir 44 with all the other expansions.

Both are well design, but the second grinding, SOS as all the rules updated. You can also get AtB and download the rules on the Academy Games Website _________________ Remember-OWS-

Both are essentially the same in many regards. Storms of Steel adds more vehicles and aircraft. That means you'll also have more rules to digest since aircraft and anti-air were not covered in Awakening the Bear. But it's still the same rule system so you are learning the rules piece by piece.
As for the rules, Storms of Steel uses the same rules and includes all the errata that was introduced with Awakening the Bear. Errata has not come out yet for Storms of Steel but I'm sure there will be some changes and fixes coming along soon so no matter which game you choose you'll likely end up printing out revised rules. _________________ Trade List at:

I finished reading the rule book.
Pretty cool set of rules.
Only thing I am not a fan of was the hidden movement which I can always just throw out. _________________ Always Flying. Always Fighting. RIP JIMMY.

Thanks for the info on CoH. I was wondering what type of sleeves the cards fit in:
1 5/8'' x 2 1/2'' (41x63 MM)
1 11/16'' x 2 5/8'' (44x68 MM)
2 1/4'' x 3 1/2'' (56x87 MM)
2 5/16'' x 3 9/16'' (59x92 MM)
Thanks _________________ James 1:17

Hey, rey
are you planning on buying this game?
Because I was.
Not that there is a problem with both of us buying it... _________________ Always Flying. Always Fighting. RIP JIMMY.

I'm leaning towards so. Not entirely sure yet. Need to read the rules and stuff to get a better feel. If I was going to order it, I plan to buy it from:
http://www.coolstuffinc.com/main_...f%20Heroes:%20Storms%20of%20Steel!%20Board%20Game
They give free shipping on boardgames over a $100. Wasn't sure about getting a second game to go over the $100. If I do order it and you haven't purchased it yet the do you combine the orders to get free shipping?
In any event this Wargames section is killing me with all these neat games coming up. _________________ James 1:17
