Post subject: Rolling for mines

So, finally used the Russians....mines were laid, but a nonfactor in the two games we played.
Question: Do you roll for mines if a ship stays in a sector with mines and does not move.?
We did not, only rolled for them when a ship entered the sector with mines. I could see it going either way as technically each turn even if the ship does not move it is still sailing in that mined sector. Per the wording on the card I think we are playing correctly.
How do others play this? _________________ Aaron

I think you got it right, you only roll when you enter the sector, but not if you just stay in it or leave it. _________________

I certainly think you're playing it the right way. _________________

I'd still almost argue that the ships are still effectively moving when staying stationary in the sea square (since the zone represents such a large area to begin with) Otherwise, i'd say torpedo's should hit on 5's and 6's if the enemy isn't moving
But in terms of how it's worded in the rules, i think the roll is only made when ships enter the mined square. _________________

This is kind of the point I was getting at as well. 5000 sq/yrds is a big area.
I think the rules are clear that you only roll when entering. This might be a case for an errata. Maybe someone can post on the WoTC sight as I cannot access it for some reason. _________________ Aaron

I've been having problems with their boards recently too. I'm not sure exactly what's up over there. _________________

Finally asked the question on the WoTC Forum.
One other thing I did not see answered....are subs immune to mines? We played they did not have to roll since the card states submarine and not ship per the SA. _________________ Aaron

That one has been answered at some point afilter. They said the card says 'ships' and subs are type 'sub' so they're not affected. So yes, subs are immune to mines. _________________
