Post subject: Gun Sizes?
|
|
|
I'm baffled by the gunnery nomenclature. What is the point of calling guns very large or middling or whatever? I've seen no reference to gun size in the original rules writeup.
I have a general concern that a great number of rules are "understood" but not codified. Gun size is one; i expect there are others. _________________ Eric

I personally do not care since a gun rating is a gun rating to me, but the majority have already talked, agreed and like the change from traditional to size of guns. _________________ Always Flying. Always Fighting. RIP JIMMY.

I think its pretty much the same as WaS's 'Primary, Secondary, etc' set up. I think? I've been wading through stuff gradually. _________________

There is no difference if you wish to use the most basic rules.
If you want to use a more advanced system, you can. The larger guns can get a penalty when shooting at smaller targets. Ships are either Battleships, Cruisers, or Destroyers. Large guns get no penalty against BB's, -1 against cruisers, -2 against destroyers. Medium guns get -1 against destroyers. Guns shooting 'up' against larger targets get no penalty.
One thing that does need to be done is getting the rules together, perhaps effort to collect these would be a reasonable project. _________________

Also it eliminates the need for ER4 or ER5 SA's when the rulebook (Hypothetically) states (Also Hypothetically) that VL (Very large, 15" +) guns have a range of 5, L (Large, 9"-14.9") guns have a range of 4, M (Medium, 5.6"-8.9") guns have a range of 3, and S (Small, under 5.6) have a rang of 2.
That was the intent anyway. _________________ Gaming for 36 Years.

I'm sure it does. I just haven't seen it explained in any of the alpha rules i've seen.
I don't care for ER SAs. I prefer the actual range be listed on the card with the other ranges. More consistant. _________________ Eric
