Post subject: 1944 HMS Nelson: Post-Refit
|
|
|
As some talk has been generated about the HMS Nelson possibly showing up in set IV, I'm beginning to wonder what its stats will be compared to Rodney's.
I'm really hoping that RB goes with a 1944 Nelson
http://www.battleships-cruisers.co.uk/nelsonhistory.htm
Given the increased radar fire control, dozens of new anti-air mounts, upgrades to existing anti-air batteries, and improved superstructure/gun armor, better scout craft, what stats would a post-1944 refit HMS Nelson have?
I don't have my Conway's with me, so I can't find if there would be any changes to speed or primary armor, post refit. _________________ ...it is good that war is so horrible, lest we grow too fond of it. -Bobby Lee

I'm almost 100% positive that only one of the Nelsons ever had an aircraft onboard, and it was only for a short time prior to the war.
Also fairly sure that her armor remained unchanged (if it did change it probably wouldn't change the Armor 9 already given to her class)
Maybe a niff highter AA rating...otherwise, me thinks she'd just be a Rodney reprint with a funny Paintjob and differnt SAs
BUT I would also like a Nelson in game. It is a sensable reprint afterall. Best Battleship for UK IMO |

Only cause they haven't had a chance to screw it up yet.
I also would like a Nelson. My 2 Tirpitz are tired of sinking 2 Rodney's _________________

Well..... i guess in order it would go
Hood - Vanguard - KGV - N3 - Nelson - Lion - G3
And just for Ha Ha's Furious as a battlecruiser, she'd be a glass cannon, but at least it'd be a UK ship capable of ER5 (and potentially damaging itself...) |

I'd never complain about the RN getting the short end of the stick again if they gave us Nelson with armor 10 and 17 17 15 13 guns or radar fire control.
Or just give us Vanguard. _________________

That's the thing about Vanguard.
What exactly does she really bring to the Table for the UK. Given trends, she'll be a KGV with Hood's main gunnery values an no Jammed mount.
Oh and a Limit of 1.
So she's a replacement unit for KGV (and Hood will be completely obsolete by then with no literal justification for playing her) But the Nelsons will still be a more solid unit.
Unless Slow 1 really really has hampered you in the past, or Vanguard is put in at an incredibly low point cost, the Nelsons would be an overall better choice.
Don't get me wrong, I want a Vanguard too. (Grand Scenario she'd become the Flag of the Royal Navy till the Lions or G 3's come in) But Vanguard just isn't going to be a truly awesome piece.

| Wouldn't mind Nelson or filling out more of the KGV class. How about Duke of York, sans jammed mount? Would also like a Royal Sovereign class for early war and convoy scenarios. |

My own guesses/desires for Vanguard are as follows. Main gunnery like Tirpitz, secondaries like KGV/PoW, rest of stats like Missouri. I'm not sure about the hull 6 for Vanguard, but I think she rates it. Flag 2, ER 5, TD 1, Heavy AA.
A 1944 refit Nelson could get the Shore Bombardment SA. ER 5 is a natural. |

That one shot ER6 is pretty awesome though. Unlike all other ER, it still works when the ship is damaged (which is good if you're hit by aircraft early) _________________

Nelson-Yes, additional AA-Yes, other than that and a new paint job, probably not much difference. _________________
