WELCOME!!!
We use Conway's as our main source of information. If you combine Conways with Richard Worth's "Fleets of WWII" you will have a plethora of inforation with Conways providing the cold hard data and Fleets adding how successful each class was. they really go together well.
And both books have limited previews available at googlebooks.com Check em out. _________________

A "must" really... go get it
I'd also recommend the pre-1922 conway's too _________________ ...it is good that war is so horrible, lest we grow too fond of it. -Bobby Lee

Core of a Forumini researcher's library:
Conway's 06-21 & 22-46
Fleets of WWII
Squadron/Signal's "Warships in Action" series--painting notes on US MS__ camo schemes very helpful
Profile Morskie series--blueprint centerfolds are really neat
If RB had seen the S/S book on light carriers, he might have had Princeton's monochrome paint be the correct MS21 Navy Blue rather than MS13 Gray. _________________ <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Anyone have a good online link to a bookstore that would carry Conway's two books and Fleets ? _________________

For a good 'sandbox' point of view the Conway's 06-21 & 22-46 series are great.
Just bear in mind that sandbox statistics are great to get a general idea - which is fine for WaS and other similar low-medium complexity wargames.

Also, when you can find them M. J. Whitley's books, while expensive, are far superior. _________________ <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

My friend and I have both Conways books in our joint collection.
But i also like the old/small Doubleday books which are nice, though outdated as are the series of books that Ian Allen did which i have the entire set.
Again the Ian Allen books which are outdated but they do have some nice pictures and some other information.

Conway's is good and at the core of my library.
I also have the old Ian Allen books, the old Warship in Profile series, all the Warship quarterlies from No 1 to No 49 and most of the Warship annuals which took over from the quarterlies.
Cruisers of WW2 by M J Whitely is a valuable book as it gives a lot of operational history on each ship in each class.
For a 'nuts and bolts' approach to warship design I also recommend all the D.K. Brown books, 'Warrior to Dreadought', 'The Grand Fleet' and 'Nelson to Vanguard'. Despite mentioning battleships in the titles these books cover all warship and submarine design - mostly Royal Navy but also referring to foreign practices where these differed. _________________ 'Master and Commander'

Conway's covers the world - also expect to find Cuba, Norway and Peru. _________________ 'Master and Commander'

Conway's is good for a foundation, but Whitley was also most devoted to Axis (particularly DKM) history. And for the Asashio/Kagero/Yugumo breakdowns, CombinedFleet.com has the correct breakdown, Conway's is wrong, ditto the transliteration of Akizuki's name. (Z, not TS--in the Japanese alphabets (Kanji, Katakana, Hiragana), each character is a syllable and Zu looks noticeably different from Tsu).
Comparisons, left is CF and right is Conways/RB, four dashes separate...
Hiragana:あきずき----あきつき
Katakana: アキズキ----アキツキ
Do you see a difference? _________________ <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

I bought my Conway's at the Naval Institute Press site. They just reprinted them about two years ago. Amazon might have them too. For 'Fleets of WWII' you will need to search for used books. _________________
