Post subject: New Chinese Commanders? Reply with quote
I notice someone alrady make a chinese commander, Xue Yue. I was wondering would this commander, Sun Li-jen be another good add-on to the Chinese army? i read some archives on the sino japanese war, and many hold high regards to this relatively unknown chinese commander.

He was some of the few nationalist generals that is praised for his competence during the war by the western  allies. In one of the battle, he even managed to save a birtish unit from annihilation (one of the few momments in ww2, chinese aren't the one getting saved. Very Happy) In addition, he is valuable to the war effort in the reopening of the burma road. After the war, he served well against the communists. But come into conflict with his superior, General Du Yuming, and was sacked. It is said Mao even hold a banquet after he is dismissed. Afterward the nationalists start losing many battles. During the later day of the civil war, Chiang suspected he is conspiring with the Americans to overthrown him and he was jailed for the rest of his life.

He commanded the new 1st army, probably one of the best KMT units, but it is relatively unknown. hated by the communists for the damage it dealt to them, and hated by Chiang's nationlists after their commander's fall from grace. So little is known about them.

Hello and Welcome!
The Forumini Generals project is completed and a second set is unlikely in the near future. If we are going to do a second set, the nations without one are more likely to get one first, for example, Greece and the upcoming South Africa.
But I will give you my try on Sun plus Li Zhongren (in pinyin spelling, the victor of Taierzhuang) later anymway.

Sun Liren (Sun Li-jen)
Bio: Sun did well in Burma during WWII.
Crack: This player's KMT Riflemen use the following stats: Cost 3, AI 8/6/-, AT 2/-/-, CA 6. This player's KMT MG teams lose the SA "Overheat" but cost 7.
Poor Supply: This player's vehicles cost 3 more.

Li Zhongren (Li Chung-jen)
Bio: Li won the battle of Taierzhuang, the first KMT major victory over the Japanese, by trapping the Japanese in a Stalingrad-type battle.
Trap: This player's units may be deployed any map-edge hex in addition to the starting hexes.
Not Chiang's faction: This player's units other than non-artillery soldiers cost 1 more each.

Thanks, you are quick in making those cards. This is the first time I heard about Li Zhongren and Taierzhuang, so honestly thanks for the info. I am still a newb in this game, but I was wondering if my modification to your card on Sun Li-Jen will still work?

Sun Li-jen
Bios: General Sun Li-jen served with distinctions during both the Sino-Japanese war and the Chinese Civil War. The only thing setting him back is his uneasy relationships with his superiors in the KMT.
Modern Training: This player's KMT Riflemen use the following stats: Cost 3, AI 8/6/-, AT 2/-/-, CA 6. This player's KMT MG teams lose the SA "Overheat" but cost 7. You may field UK's artillery soldiers.
Unfavored: This player may not field vehicles.

I read that Sun was respected by British and American commanders such as William Slim and they would support him with tanks and artilleries in battle since his units don't have any. On the otherhand, his relationships with his superiors in the KMT is not that good. He is frequently refused access to troops that are needed for battles. Since tanks and vehicles in that nationalist army is usually given to favoured generals, I am guessing Sun will not have any =p.

I will check the actual OB of Sun's various commands during WWII, before making any responses. Thanks for the appreciation!

Sun did command the 200th Division, a motorized division (originally built as an armoured division) for a while, so the "No vehicles" thing should not apply to him. Later in the war his command actually become one of the first "US-Equipped" units. So vehicle penalties shouldn't be given to him. Moreover he became C-in-C of the Army in 1950. Therefore we shouldn't make too much fuss out of his stranded relations with his superiors, though he was imprisoned by Chiang.

sorry about the late reply, work realli got to me. After rereading some of his bio, he did command quite a bit of armored units. And i just found out that he not only have stranded relationship with his superiors, but with many of his peers in general. Apparantly although a capable commander, he have a big tattitude sorta like monty.

Here is a new version of Sun:
Sun Li-jen
Bio: Sun served with distinction in WWII and the Chinese Civil War, but his relations with his peers and superiors were poor.
Best of the Chinese: This player gains +1 initiative
Crack Troops: This player's KMT riflemen cost 3, AI 8/6/-, At 2/-/-, CA 6. This player's KMT MG team loses the SA "Overheat".
Stranded Relations: This player's suppor units cost 1 more each.

Getting support from British troops is not the same as actually commanding them, so I do not allow him to do so. This is to maintain the spirit of the Forumini generals.
