Here's my effort at a complete rulebook for the Dreadnought Rising project.  The document was created with Open Office so it should have wide compatability.

There's a lot to sift through here, but I'll read it through again soon and post anything I see.  To be honest it's been so long that I barely remember what the last edition of the rules was supposed to be.

In my rules presentation i allow an i go u go format to combat.  This prevents the time lag of the second player having to wait.

It also allows another concept i'd like to add, that of splash markers.

Ships which target the same vessel have a more difficult time hitting the target as they must discern the difference between their own shell splashes and that of another ship.

All it requires is a splash marker to indicate the target has already been fired upon

Thanks, but my work PC (and probably most peoples' PCs) can't read Open Office format.

Could you save as .doc or .txt?  Thanks again

Are you sure?  I just opened the doucment in microsft word with no problem.  It's an open source document so it should open with everything.

if not, OpenOffice is free from openoffice.org

I just tried to open it on my other computer, an older PC and had no luck.  My Mac laptop had no problem with the document though.

Word 2007 can open it, Word XP/2000 can't.

Most work PCs don't allow new installs (like mine)

At home I have Word 2007 and Open Office, but I was really hoping to playtest DR here at work (I teach highschool) tonight, and would like to use the full DR rules.  If anyone could just open it and reload it as a doc, I'd appreciate it (if not, I understand, clearly not a big deal).  I'm trying to find a OO reader in the mean time.

Word 97 won't open it on my rather elderly PC. Fortunately, She Who Must Be Obeyed has OpenOffice on her computer and she saved it for me as a .doc file. Having tried to trade spreadsheet files with someone who worked exclusively with OpenOffice, I can tell you that the files are open source only by the broadest of definitions.
