Post subject: Open Back SA need clarification
|
|
|
Guys,
My game group has been playing A and A mini's since 2005 and we still get into argument regarding rules and there interpretations.
Last Friday it was the Open Back SA on a M-7 priest unit.
The card for the M-7 states that units atacking this vehicle from the rear can use there anti soldier attack stats.
I interpret this to mean that soldiers that generally have limited range against vehicle 0-1 with 2 dice max attack stat can elect to fire from short - med range with useing there anti soldier attack value. Here is the problem, the guys I play with say that the vehicle is destroyed like a soldier when hit with two successes. For example the M-7 Priest has a def of 3/3 so if the Panzergrenadier hits it with 4 successes they say the priest is Destroyed. I say NOT the M-7 Priest is still a vehicle and takes 3 hits to Destroy.
The SA of the M-7 Open back does not say it is turned into a soldier type unit when attacked from the rear.
HELP Please! these guys are driving me nuts with this bullshit. I know we have come across this previously in play and we discussed it at length before.
How do you guys play this SA?

I play it your way. A-I dice, but the unit is still a vehicle. _________________ Oroks englisch is a very precious and special form of the englisch language. Like it or hate it, if you don`t understand it, PM the very precious and special creator for explainations. |

The SA phisicaly states
"You may use your Anti Soldier attacks against this unit" does it not? And "this unit" is a Vehicle, as stated on the front of the stat card. Therefore, it is a vehicle being attacked by infantry.
Therefore taking 3 hits to destroy. _________________

Think of it this way... they are killing the men operating the vehicle, not the vehicle itself. If the crew is killed, the vehicle is inoperable and it is removed from play. So use the AI value against the vehicle since you are more or less shooting at the crew...
Hope that helps. _________________ Custom Painted Minis: http://riversidegaming.myfastforum.org/forum52.php

Snip,
That is the precise point my budds argued. I however still maintain that the Vehicle with Open Back is still a vehicle and requires three hits to destroy. If useing the AI stats to atack the vehicle results in doubling the def value then yes it would be destroyed outright. I just don't think the SA changes the unit in question to a soldier for damage results.

Right.
Another way this comes up is when the Tomahawk attacks a vehicle with Open Back.
Yes the Tomahawk does get to use it's anti-soldier attack dice.
No the Tomahawk does not get the Steady-Firing bonus dice because the target is a vehicle and not a soldier...
Using a different type of attack does not change the basic nature of the target. A vehicle is always a vehicle and always takes 3 hits to destroy... _________________
