Post subject: Historic German 100pts
|
|
|
I was pondering this one earlier on.
Scharnhorst - 38
Karlsruhe - 10
Karl Galster - 8
U510 - 11
U510 - 11
Bf 109 - 7
Kondor - 6
Ju88 - 9
Total 100pts
As an historic hand Kondor loses glider bomb (not available until after Scharhorst was sunk) but Scharnhorst gains -1 torpedo defence SA as Bismarck and Tirpitz. As noted among my own corrections Bismarck's torpedo defence was based on Scharnhorst's.
The three ships can operate in one square giving a three level AA defence. Alternate moves a fighter can operate overhead or escort the bombers.
The two U-boats plus the KG, JU88 and Kondor all have an ASW capability.
As an aggressive alternative, ditch the Bf 109 and substitute a Stuka for the same cost. In this case make sure the bombers all fly on the same move to split enemy fighter response.
While Karl Galster floats the Karlsruhe confers initiative of 1. _________________ 'Master and Commander'

If only the Scharnhorst had the Torpedo Defense that makes other small battleships more survivable. In a gun-fight she's ok, but with a torpedo based opponent you might be in trouble, it just can't soak up the hits like you want it too.
Otherwise, can't complain. You could swap initiative for smoke (Karlsruhe to new Torpedo Boat) and save a few points, though perhaps not enough to do anything with. I also like Kondor much more than JU-88. Perhaps instead of Ju-88 and Karlsruhe you take T-27(I think that's the right number) and two additional Kondors? Hopefully those points add up, I don't have my cards in front of me. _________________

Scharnhorst's lack of TD1 and lack of gun range 6 (as HMS Warspite) is one of many card errors in the game.
I was surprised to note that Giulio Cesare and Baltimore both get TD1 and yet Scharnhorst does not. The Baltimore class was only hit by one small torpedo yet the ship was very badly damaged. Same with the Italian battleships at Taranto.
See my link in footer for recommended historical fixes. _________________ 'Master and Commander'

If you're using your fixes, then I'd say Scharnhorst is a good value here. I've always liked taking a smaller BB and putting a bit more emphasis on support. _________________

I like this fleet build. Historic and effective with variety.
Copy and paste to 'good 100 point fleet builds'... |
