For those of you who may not know of this site, it is ESSENTIAL to anyone playing ANY board/miniatures game at all. Most of you will know of it. But here`s the address for new converts:

Honestly I have not been impressed.
I have been linked there several times for tidbits of information, but found it difficult to navigate and find information on my own. Maybe just need to devote some time to it or lack the attention span. _________________ Aaron

The site seems to have an old fashioned war gamer focus. Barring the popular dinner table games (Agricola, Catan) that glean the surface, beneath that is a world favoring chits, tables, and depth of theme.

I visit often, it seems to be visited by professional game designers.
A bit obscure with some great posts though.
I read something last night about the best games cover boxes. Very interesting. _________________

I agree Afliter, like most user-created places, finding the useful stuff amongst the whining and stuff isn't all that easy. That said, it does have some pretty nice stuff, I have a couple of the hex and chit sort of games and downloaded some user created quick-reference cards that helped me a bit. _________________

I used to be quite active on BBG for quite a few years So here's my take.
As far as it being populated by old wargamers, you almost made me spray my drink all over my monitor! Not the case at all. In fact the wargamers all complain that the site has a definite bias against wargames since the wargame ratings are skewed by an unknown amount to apparently take into consideration the fewer number of ratings.
Much of the site is decidedly eurogame heavy although the wargames have seen a big jump in popularity after ConSim World had a hiccup about a year or two ago. Another popular punching bag is any game that is collectable. Collectable games get a lot of flak although there are a few staunch defenders who are well respected.
If you avoid all the chit chat that goes on there then the site is an excellent resource. Each game has a page devoted to it. Just use the search field to find the game of interest. The game pages are all organized the same way so once you get the hang of it it is actually fairly easy to find the information you want. Each page has basic info about the game, pictures, a forum feature to provide information, read reviews and ask questions about the specific game. There is also a collection feature on each game page that lets you include a game into your user collection and record the times you've played it and any thoughts, ratings and other information you'd like to record.
The greatest part about the game specific pages is the files section however. This lets users submit files related to the game. Many users create some really amazing player aides, rules summaries, rules translations etc. These pages also provide an area for the game designers to interact with their customers which frequently happens, especially with wargames.
My advise would be to stick to the game specific pages and you'll find them to be a huge help. If you don't have a ton of games I'd also register there and enter your games as part of a collection. It makes an easy one stop place to find out more info on the games you own. Many users create custom scenarios for many wargames and lots of other neat stuff so it's worth it just for that. It's also really nice if you have rules questions. A quick question posted to the game specific page will frequently get a response from several experienced players in a matter of hours. You'll often get an official answer from the designer as well.
If you have any specific questions about the site I'd be happy to give you some help on getting the most out of the site with the least amount of effort. _________________ Trade List at:

In my defense, I was looking at miniature games in a war theme (Battletech, Mechwarrior, C.A.V.) where the 'Grognards' tend to out voice the more casual enthusiast.
