Hot on the heels of Historicon, the East Carolina University Strategic Simulations Group will present a series of events at Southern Front on Saturday, October 10 in Raleigh, NC.
We're running three events, and events will have consequences in subsequent events:
Title: Gibraltar Under Attack, a 3-scenario campaign
GMs: UNC_Samurai, Odysseus, hossmosis
Description: This is a series of 3 events featuring the rules and miniatures of Axis & Allies: War at Sea. The campaign focuses on an alternative historical scenario where the Germans and Italians attempt to neutralize or capture Gibraltar in summer 1940.
Each event will run in consecutive order. Players participating in the first or second event will be given priority commands during the third and final event.
The first scenario is Running the British Gauntlet. The German surface fleet has assembled in the Norwegian Sea, and will attempt to dash between the Faroe and Shetland Islands. Can the British fleet stop them, or will the Germans escape to begin preparations for attacking Gibraltar?
The second scenario is The Italian Hammer. With most of the Italian army committed to France, The Regia Marina has cobbled together enough troops to capture Malta and Gibraltar. A combined British/French force must stop the Italians from taking the \"unsinkable aircraft carrier\". Should the Italians command the island, they would be in a prime position to aid the Germans in further offensives...
The third event is Attack on Gibraltar. This scenario is much larger than the first two events. German and Italian fleet composition will be affected by their performance in the first two scenarios, but balance of play will be fully
maintained. This scenario will feature custom house rules involving the landing of troops, amphibious assaults, and shore batteries.
Maximum Number Of Players: 2-8
Ruleset: Axis & Allies: War at Sea
Scale: 1/1800

Quick question - will all ships be provided for this, or should I plan on bringing my own? _________________

I love this idea. Please fill us in on how it goes who uses what.
Is the first scenerio more like a convoy with battleships?
I was telling my friend about this and we want to play it. Thanks |

Unfortunately, it looks like I'm not going to be able to make it. I hope you guys have a great time, though! _________________

Wow, sorry, guys, I hadn't even looked at the thread in a while. As I said, jfk, it's a shame you can't make it. Hopefully we'll run something in the not too distant future.
As a friendly reminder for anyone else who might be attending, we have our schedule laid out, including all the vessels, terrain, and everything. All anyone needs is a basic grasp of the rules - everything else will be provided.
After the convention, we will be posting the scenario rules online for everyone to see, in the WaS Scenarios sub-folder. We have a pretty neat gimmick cooked up, and we expect the game to remain fairly balanced. |
