Post subject: Oldendorf's Revenge - playtest needed

I'm looking for help refining this scenario. THIS NEEDS SOME PLAY TESTING.
This scenario is losely based the Battle of Surigao Strait. It's meant to be convoy scenario - but instead of convoys, the Japanese player is trying to get his warships across the map.
I trimmed down the US fleet and beefed up the Japanese to try and even things out a bit. If you like, more histrically accurate fleets could be used. As it is below, the US fleet get's trimmed quite a bit.
Play on Map 6 and use night engagement rules.
Units:
US fleet:
Pennslvania (played by Arizona minus "Inspire to Victory")
Tennessee
California
Maryland (Played by Tennessee)
Portland (Played by Salt Lake City)
Minneapolis (Played by San Francisco minus Destroyer Leader)
HMAS Shropshire (Played by HMS Kent)
Boise
Denver (Played by Cleveland)
2 Fletchers
6 PT boats
Japanese fleet:
Yamishiro
Fuso (Played by Yamishiro)
Mogami (Played by Myoko)
2x Shigure (Shigure, Asagumo)
2x Isokaze (2 Other DDs)
+ Vice Adm Shima's Rear Force
Nachi
Ashigara (Played by Nachi)
2 Yukikaze
Setup:
Use map 6. Japan sets up on the wide side. The US player sets up on the narrow side. However, PT boats may be placed anywhere on the map during setup.
Objectives:
US - sink the Japanese fleet. US scores points for each Japanese ship sunk.
Japan - get your ships accoss and off the map. Japan scores points for each US unit destroyed and for each Japanese unit that makes it accross the map.
Winner has the most points when no Japanese ships remain on the map. _________________ TimK

Hm... I wish I had enough of the ships in question!
But anyway, since its a night fight the LL is even more useful since torpedoes aren't penalized and all attacks will be in LL range with ER out of the equation... Even so I think that the USN BBs might tear the IJN up. Best strategy for the IJN might be to hold back the Yamashiros and send up the LL ships to engage the USN.
Do the darkness penalties to gunnery stack with the BB penalties against destroyers? |
