Post subject: Ideas for new MG - Team
|
|
|
I'm not sure if this a question for the general discussion forum or here, but since I will be creating a custom card I figured I'd start the thread here.
I wanted to creat a new MG team for the US, specifically the M2 or Browning .50 Cal aka the "Ma Deuce".
I realize that A&A has the quad 50 that throws 9/8/6 inf and 3/3/3 armor
and this is where my dilemma begins. These numbers aren't even as good as the M1919 US MG team - 9/8/7 and 3/3/3 respectively.
Then I have the issue of the .50 cal being better than the MG 42? It seems that the favor goes to the 42, with the reasearch I gathered, but doesn't the 50 pack more of a punch? I understand that the 42 was a wonderful piece of engineering, but as I am finding, it seems that A&A puts alot of weight behind the fact that the 42 had a much superior rate of fire. The .50 cal muzzle velocity and range are better than the 42, from what I gather from wikipedia, so wouldn't that generate a longer range and better armor dice to an A&A card, but the quad 50 has worse dice than the A&A MG 42 card.
I also compared the M16 1/2 Track card to the Sd Kfz 7/1 card. The 7/1 throws much better dice than the M16 or 1/2 tacked quad .50.
A&A does give the M16 "double shot", but the 20mm cannons used on the 7/1 had a significantly better rate of fire. Is that why it has better dice? I believe the 7/1 hade smaller guns so why the better armor dice? The 7/1 dice are 11/10/8 - 6/5/4.
Well I suppose my question is where do I go from here? Do I make a .50 cal MG team that surpasses the MG42 in range and armor dice or do I correct the other cards I have compared it to?
Hopefully someone better that I can set me straight as I am not a ballistics expert.

| Nice card Sharpe, and I love the text, I guess this means you agree with me that A&A dropped the ball on the quad 50? |

Pretty much. ASL gives the Quad .50 a very high rating, 25% better than a single. _________________

| The flavor text is just an Urban Legend right? I've seen it before, but could find no evidence of the 50 being illegal to use against human targets. |

You're probably right about that. I stumbled across that factoid but didn't check it out. Evidently, it stems from the Army discouraging using the M2 against personnel as wasteful, but that might have been a Vietnam-era doctrine, not WW2.
It's hard to believe that sending explosive shells against personnel is more humane than large bullets.
I had heard that the Germans filed protests in WW1 against an Indian prince who brought a high-powered rifle to the trenches. (Source: Byron Farwell) _________________
