Post subject: adding to my naval book library...

I just recently acquired a copy of "History of United States Naval Operations in World War II" Vol Five. "Struggle for Guadalcanal August 1942 - February 1943"
I was wondering as to the accuracy of info in this tome. And what Tirnou and others "In the know" think of these volumes?
I'm considering locating the rest of the books. I want to be sure tho that it wont be a waste of time... _________________ The SCA: Just an excuse for getting dressed up in Medieval clothing and beat each other up with padded sticks! |

Opinions on the quality of Morison's books vary, as to how valid the history is. Nobody argues with their usefullness as sources of which US ships were present at which battles. Morison's series is also very useful as a source of scenarios. There are a lot of little actions and could have beens that you likely haven't heard of. Be prepared to be reading a volume and have a sudden desire to make up a scenario.
Morison didn't know about the entire British and US decoding efforts, and I don't know if he was able to reveal all that he did know.
I'll say that the series is a must-buy if the price isn't crazy high. |

Thanks for the info and feedback...
Funny that you should mention that last tidbit...
I'm already churning a number of scenarios in me noggin! Especially some "What ifs"... _________________ The SCA: Just an excuse for getting dressed up in Medieval clothing and beat each other up with padded sticks! |
