Post subject: plannin on building an italian army
|
|
|
i've decided to return to axis and allies miniatures after about a year
and a half of absence, and im glad to see Italy has some really nice
units that i think have made it a playable faction on its own
this is what i currently own:
2x Blackshirts
2x Italian Conscripts
2x Fucile Modello
1x Breda Modello 37
1x Carro Armato M11/39
1x Breda Modello 30
3x Stalwart Hero
4x Brixia M35
3x Stalwart Lt.
1x L6/40
which as you can see is seriously lacking firepower
this is what i am currently planning on buying:
4x Blackshirts
2x Semovente 75
1x Semovente 90
4x Alpine Troops
1x Autoblinda
1x Breda Modello 37
2x Fucile Modello<--just to have more of this infantry
in the small group i play with dont like to play with aircraft so i wont
bother with the Macchi 202
any advice as to playing Italy? what else would you suggest to get for
Italy?
also i currently have the Expanded rules being delivered and should get
it by the end of the week
i appreciate any advice because i am pretty lost trying to catch up to what
is currently happening with this game _________________

Italy is fun to play. You should get more Carro Armatos, veteran ones and regular ones. They are the backbone of the Italian army along with the blackshirts and Autoblindas. Semovente's are solid too but the Carros can do it all. I know the explosion rolls can be a killer but just try to avoid tank exchanges unless you shoot first. Going first is crucial for utilizing the carros and autoblindas. Something to keep in mind. _________________

The revised cards supercede the formations. Formations are obsolete, some still use them but my play group (and most advanced players) does not. They are officially unsupported and are not really needed now that the revision is in effect. This is a contentious issue so I will let you decide which way to go... _________________

i start playing with italians, vey difficult, very fun, but you can win with some experience. But you need more tanks that your opponent, you have got 110 points for one nationality.
You need more Carro M13, and the fantastic Semo 75, 10 dies for large range, if you put 3 in a standard game you have more chance. Or 4 or 5 Carro Armato, and 40 points for infantry. Bredas 37, and Alpine for last turns, 9 dies for CA with Steel Resolve 2, if you put heroes or Breda 30 (not good) you negates defensive fire. |

If you are using the platoon formations option buy the Blackshirt plat(s). Love the SA Ruthless There a It. tank that has a SA Doubleshot . Nice and cheap and fast . _________________ Always playtest the dumb strategies , because if it works it's not dumb !!! |

I find when playing Italy, you can't really have an effective specialized build, your better off trying to fit a bit of everything in there. Italy has some fierce AT but really, when we get down to it, all their armour is satisfactory at best. Even the mighty Jagdpanther succumbs to its "no turret" SA every now and then, and its a 6/4 Superior Armour 2, forget getting cocky with the Italian SPGs. The M13/40s are ok, the vet is good, but bulking your build with them is a bad idea. A balance of AT guns, a TD or 2, and 35-50 pts of infantry. A C.202 can't hurt either. Use everything they have, its not like your playing with the US or Germany whose TDs, planes, AT guns...etc are all excellent. _________________

| Just finished a 100 pt. match where I was all Italian. I had 2 of each Semovente and 4 Carro's along with 2 Auto's and 4 Inscripted Infantry. Went up against a British force of 2 Cromwell IV's, 2 Stuart's, 2 Staghounds, 1 Humber and a handful of stens, brens and SMLE's. I lost 2 vehicles in turn 1 due to lack of cover and great long range rolls by the Brit's but it was mostly downhill for them after that. The Cromwell's weren't very effective and got nailed by the Semovente's while the Carro's and Auto's kept the infantry and Stag's at bay. Italy won in turn 7 with 5 vehicles and 1 infantry remaining. British force's had an MG and officer left. |

Are you sure about the British Forces? It's way over a 100PT. 2 Crom + 2 Stuart + 2 Stags are 104PT alone. _________________ James 1:17
