Post subject: Total N00b German Army (200 pts)
|
|
|
I'm a totally new player (started out collecting some of the vehicle minis) looking for a little friendly advice. All my minis are form V.2 sets. I've got a friend who likes to play Soviet armies, so I thought I'd try to start figuring this stuff out playing against him. In any event, here are a handful of German army builds I've considered. Thanks in advance for any help or input:
Build 1:
Wehrmacht Veteran Infrantrymen (5pts X2)
Flammenwerfer 35 (5pts)
Pioneers (7pts)
SS-Panzergrenadier (7pts X3)
MG 42 (10 pts)
SS-Haupsturmfuhrer (7 pts)
SD KFZ 251 (6 pts)
Panzer IV Ausf. G (22pts X2)
Jagdpanzer IV/70 (25 pts)
Veteran Tiger (65 pts)
200 pts total
Build 1A:
Same as above, replace SS-Haupsturmfuhrer and SD KFZ 251 with Wehrmacht Oberleutnant or swap Wehrmacht Oberleutnant in for the halftrack and one of the Panzergrenadiers
Build 2:
Same as build 1, but replace the Jagdpanzer IV/70 with Me 110, Opel Blitz and Mauser (total cost 199)
Build 3:
Same as build 1, replace the Jagdpanzer IV/70 with Nebelwerfer, Opel Blitz, Mauser and 1 extra Panzergrenadier (200 pts) |

First off
Second, you builds may work well against Russian infantry, but if he decides to bring the Russion Heavy Metal on you, you could be in trouble. Your Vet Tiger my hold out for a while, but without the Jagd 70 you will be eaten alive by more than one IS2 or 2-3 KV1s. Also, I would keep in the 251, so if you are playing an objective match, you have some late game mobility. Looks like a good build other than that, agaist the Russkies I would add in some more turreted tanks, but that is just me.
**EDIT** Sorry, didnt see the 2 Panzer IV Gs _________________

It seems that you don't have the revised cards. For example, the Vet Tiger costs 68, not 65. Then you should not field the 2 VWI, and field one extra SSPG instead. And the IVGs are early for sure......
You might like to try the StuG IIIG, the Jadgtiger, the Jadgpanther as well...... |

Like I said, I only have V.2 minis, so no Jagdtiger. I have an SS-Jagdpanther, but the cost seems relatively high. If I had another Panzer IV G or F2, would it be worth fielding that the SS-Jagdpanther or an extra Panzer IV and a Panther Ausf. A for the armor component instead of the VT?
By the way, thanks to both of you for the help! |

You have the SS-Jagdpanther? I say use it. Mine was outnumberd 4 tanks to 1 and it killed 3 of those tanks and disrupted 1, it didn't take any damage or disruptions.
So for 42 points it is a very effective unit that you can easily fit into a 200 point army. _________________ "Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak, Courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen." - Churchill

| Is it worth taking the five point hit over the Panther? |

AAM Cards have been revised and the updated card stats can be found at:
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=ah/aam/updates
Note: Ribbon at the bottom of card should indicate the card has been revised some how - year, stat, cost, etc.
Off-hand in Build 1, I think you have a decent start on your balance against anti-tanks and anti-soldiers. I would give it a try and you can see how things work and what adjustments you should make after some real game play.
Also, it may be helpful to list all your German units you have since you're relatively new and looking for build suggestions If you list your units maybe others can give different suggestions on builds. _________________ James 1:17

The Veteran Tiger is generally a beast with the Crack Shot. If you want to swap it out then I probably would go with (based on limited information on what you have):
Jagdpanzer IV/70 (25 pts)
Veteran Tiger (65 pts)
for
SS-Jagdpanther (42 pts)
Panther Ausf A. (37 pts) _________________ James 1:17

The SS-Jagdpanther is definitly worth the 5 points. SS is just good in itself, but when you give the panther king tiger dice rolls with speed 4 it is a force to be reckoned with.
I parked mine on a hill in full view (3d map). I killed a Chaffee, an M36, and a Sherman. I took no hits whatsoever. _________________ "Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak, Courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen." - Churchill

For someone new you have a decent selection of German units. Build suggestions can be a little tricky because everyone has different playing styles/preferences. When making a build I like a decent amount of mobility because it allows me to maneuver in better position. Also, I like some redundancy. Meaning if I lose piece X. I still have piece Y or Z to help deal with a threat.
This may be a decent thread for some play suggestions/lessons learned:

Do you and your friend(s) play with the Revised Cards? Are you only planning to purchase Version 2 boosters? FYI Version 1 Soldier and Aircraft are the same scale as Version 2. _________________ James 1:17
