Post subject: U.S. Build [100PT]
|
|
|
Built the following American force in 100PT based on the Revised Cards and Advance Rules with 05/26/2009. Built the US force for competitive play.
[52PT] Veteran M4 Sherman "Rhino" x2
[28PT] M12 GMC
[7PT] US Ranger
[5PT] Marines M2-2 Flamethrower
[8PT] M5 Half-track
[100PT]
Premise of this build is to be cheesy with the Indirect Fire and US Ranger. If going first then position the Ranger on Half-track to spot against opposing infantry. Spot for Indirect Fire for M12, then in Assault phase move Half-track out of LOS. If going second then position Half-track with Ranger out of LOS. Then move Half-track into position to spot for Indirect Fire.
Their is a concern if the opposing force is using an aircraft especially for the M12. However, I am gambling aircraft is rarely used in a 100PT competitive environment. Also, I am a little concern dealing with opposing tanks depending on the opposing build. Hopefully two Shermans, M12, and Flamethrower can help deal with it.
Could use constructive feedback.

Right.....well then...looks like a fairly competitive build, if not a tourney winner. As long as you get no Stukas or the like, you should be fine. _________________

So you're gambling on the idea that your opponent will not bring -any- aircraft ? Or Paratroopers ? Why gamble.
28 points for the M12 also buys you a whopping 4 Pack Howitzers with points to spare (for a Ram Kangaroo upgrade for the ranger ?). Or it buys you 2 M1 unholy mortars with points to spare. The only difference is that they dont do much against vehicles.
Then again, the M12 will not do much against vehicles as well, as vehicles cant be targetted by indirect fire.
I'd drop the M12 for something more solid.
How about this :
[52PT] Veteran M4 Sherman "Rhino" x2
[18PT] Pack Howitzer x 3
[7PT] US Ranger
[5PT] Marines M2-2 Flamethrower
[10PT] RAM Kangaroo (Canadian but still allowed right?)
[7PT] Red Devil Captain
[1PT] Barbed Wire x2 _________________ There are no desperate situations, there are only desperate people.

In a 100PT it can be difficult to cram in a build that can deal with everything. With the recent rule updates I'm not sure how viable troop swarms are. It seems the builds can go from one extreme to the other either from tank to troop swarm builds.
So, far in my limited experience in more competitive environment (tourney) I rarely seen aircraft being used because for the most part they are not worth their points. Also, if someone does use an aircraft then the M12 can be placed in cover for a save and hopefully the other units can shoot it down.
Paratroopers can be dealt with spacing of the forces to prevent a drop for a shot on the M12 and/or preventing a rear shot (change facing or LOS block on the rear for the terrain).

Yes, I'm aware of Indirect Fire doesn't apply to vehicles. However, the M12 does have blast and vehicles and soldiers in the same hex are affected. Also, the Enhanced Range 16 does give it the shooting range to be position against other vehicles, can create firing lane issues, depending on the game situation can be used as a tank, etc.

If I have a chance I may give this build a try out.
Though I may tweak your modified build idea to:
[63PT] M4A1 Sherman x3
[12PT] Pack Howitzer x2
[7PT] US Ranger
[10PT] RAM Kangaroo
[8PT] Resourceful Hero
