Historical Background

Operation Jericho was a low-level World War II bombing raid by Allied aircraft on Amiens Prison in German-occupied France on 18 February 1944. The object of the raid was to free French Resistance and political prisoners, 120 of whom were to be executed the following day.

Mosquito bombers succeeded in breaching the walls and buildings of the prison, as well as destroying guards' barracks. Of the 717 prisoners, 102 were killed, 74 wounded, and 258 escaped, including 79 Resistance and political prisoners, although two thirds were recaptured.

Scenario Conditions

Idea Uses AAM:HHR v2.1 Rules, HHR Fields&Counters List and HHR Cards.

Arrow Map for on-line games (.psd format with all unit icons, now at Mediafire.com)
Arrow Units Cards (for both sides)

Winning conditions:
Allies: At least half of the Prisoners + French Resistance Fighters (4 units) must leave the map though its borders until the end of 7th turn.
Axis: Germans win if they destroy (i.e. capture or kill) more than 1/2 of french units.

Special conditions:
- The Amiens prison is a large building built on 3 hexes: E4, F3 and F4. The prisoners have recently blown up their cell doors and are able to move within the complex (and face guards defensive fire), but cannot leave the building until Mosquitoes will level down one prison wing (cumulative bomb destruction 4+). Then they are able to escape through the ruins.
- Surprise attack of the Mosquitoes flight gives the Allies free first turn; German units may not move this turn. However, ground units can fire against allied Aircrafts.
- German guards will not attack unarmed prisoners unless they try to move away or attack them or unless ordered to do so by an adjacent SS-Hauptsturmfuhrer.
- Starting from second turn, Fw190 and all German ground units may move and try to catch the fugitives and defend the city.
- Aircrafts may not fire their guns against ground units as the risk of hitting nearby civilians is too high.
- Inside the prison complex, the unit stacking limit is 3+3 units, in the rest of the city the usual 2+2 stacking limit apply.

All other rules apply fully. Prisoners (P.O.W's) may attempt to overpower the guards to arm themselves, french resistance fighters can blow up a bridge...

Modifications:
- Replace the BMW Recon team with Kubelwagen.
- Add a french truck (use a soviet ZIS) on C8 hex.

This is just the first scenario to promote AAM:HHR system. Few units, small map, simple plot. On the other side I am also drawing Crete Campaign with gliders and paratroopers.

Historical Background

The Spanish Civil War broke out in July, 1936, after a group of conservative military tried to overthrow the progressive government of the Popular Front, elected in February of the same year. Expecting an easy coup, the military rebels were surprised to encounter massive popular resistance, especially in the large urban centers. In a matter of days, the country was split in half, with one zone controlled by the government (known as Republicans, Loyalists, or Reds), and the other by the rebels (also referred to as Nationalists, Fascists, or Whites). Three years of bloody fighting followed.
The war quickly became internationalized. Global public opinion rallied around one of the two factions, seeing the war as either a struggle of democracy against fascism or, conversely, of Christian civilization against Communism. Fearful of escalation, several Western governments signed a Non-Intervention Pact. It was a dead letter from the outset. Franco immediately requested and received extensive military support from Nazi Germany and fascist Italy. The Republic was in turn supported by the Soviet Union and, to a smaller extent, by Mexico. The other Western powers refused to stand by the embattled Republic, not even allowing it to buy arms on the international market. Nevertheless, thousands of concerned citizens from some fifty nations, ignoring their own governments’ purported neutrality, rallied to the Republic’s support.

Scenario Conditions

Idea Uses AAM:HHR v2.1 Rules, HHR Fields&Counters List and HHR Cards.
Idea Charlie-2 and Able-2 Maps.

Arrow Map for on-line games (.psd format with all unit icons; at Mediafire.com)

Deployment:
Allies: Except the Vickers HMGs (already deployed), other units from International Brigades deploy in the strip marked by Republican flags. They have 3 extra Trench counters to dig during their defensive preparations.

Axis: The Nationalists deploy anywhere in the area delimited by Nationalist Flag and start the first turn.

Winning conditions:
Allies: Hold the majority of objectives until the end of 10th turn.
Axis: Conquer the majority of objectives until the end of 10th turn.

Special conditions:
- All machine guns have Relocate 1 SA in this scenario. The N°2 Mg Co. led by Lt. Harry Fry (allied Vickers HMG's) has received the belts loaded with wrong ammunition and therefore they act as standard SMLE Riflemen until they get the right ammunition from Ammo Depot located in the rear area. This can be done by any Soldier moving through the hex containing a HMG (collecting the belts), then through the Ammo Depot and back.

Modifications:
- Add a Commonwealth sniper to the Allied Side.

These scenarios quite enjoyable and well thought out.  It is nice to see how much HHR has grown up since it first started.  I was worried for a time that interest would hold up after the scale change.  I still remember all those big debates we had about unit SAs and costs back in the winter of 05/06.

BATTLE OF VERCORS, June-July 1944
Historical Background

On 5 June 1944, the Free French government in London called upon the Vercors people to take up arms and slow down the German army on its way to Normandy. In his BBC speech, de Gaulle pronounced the famous line "the chamois of the Alps leaps forth" (le chamois des Alpes bondit) which was a signal for the 4,000 maquisards to begin the uprising.

In response, German parachute and glider borne troops landed on the plateau (owing to the difficulty of access by road) and brutally suppressed the uprising, terrorising the population of the plateau with rape and torture: 600 maquisards died. This battle had seen the last and least honourable action of german paratroopers in their original role.

More at: Battle of Vercors at Wiki or Osprey Warrior n°117: French Resistance Fighter

Scenario Conditions

Idea Uses AAM:HHR v2.2 Rules (Colonel Level), HHR Fields&Counters List and HHR Cards. You may alternatively use WotC revised cards and rules.
Idea Based on Omaha 1-4 maps.

Arrow Map for on-line games (.psd format with all unit icons; at Mediafire.com)
Arrow Music Theme

Deployment:
Exclamation Allies: Start in 1 hex area around their objectives, except Resistance Fighters, which follow their partisan SA rule during the deployment.

1x Bold Captain
1x Hotchkiss MG
2x Bren MG
2x Veteran Mountaineers (French Alpine Troops)
8x Maquisards (Free French)
12x Resistance Fighters

Arrow French HHR Cards

Exclamation Axis: May deploy on right side up to the line delimited by cliff base and the hexes labeled by german flags.

Infantry, under general Karl Pflaum
2x 81mm Mortars
4x Gebirgsjägers (WotC: replace by 5x Veteran Wehrmacht)
10x Ostbataillon and Feldgendarmen units (Fortress Defenders)

Airborne special units
1x Fallschirmjager Hpt (WotC: Replace with Veteran Fallsch.)
5x Fallschirmjagers (WotC: Reduce to 4x)
2x 50mm Light Mortars
2x Ju-52
4x Dfs 230
* In simplified HHR deployment rules, paratroopers cost 2 points more and are dropped directly without showing their transport aircrafts.

Arrow German HHR Cards

Winning conditions:
Allies: Hold the majority of objectives until the end of 10th turn.
Axis: Conquer the majority of objectives until the end of 10th turn.

Special conditions:
- Paratrooper drop. All airborne units arrive in the 3rd turn. Deploy them accordingly to chosen ruleset.
- Cliffs. Mountain Troops can scale the cliffs without any penalty in their attack phase, instead firing.
- To see the units at the lower level, you have to stand at the cliffs edge. The line of sight from there is unlimited, but the units there can be seen by anyone on the bottom as well. The units at the cliffs edge get standard cover. Cliffs are blocking the L.O.S. on the units below from any other hex of the plateau.

Modifications:
Germans advantage: Add a 1x MG42 to german side/ Replace 2x Bren for Sten SMG on French side / Add 4x Fortress Defenders.
French advantage: Replace 4x Resistance fighters by 4x Maquisards / Add 2x Mountaineers.

Hardly anybody has voted for that scenario in Forumini Olympics - does it mean that:
- there are not many people playing with HHR cards?
- this scenario is wrongly set-up or unatttractive?
- the others have posted better maps? (an unlikely option  Wink )

I am asking because I don't know whether if its worth continuing in making on-line scenarios for HHR cards or not.
