Post subject: Saipan Campaign
|

My next project that I am working on is a short Saipan campaign. I'm looking at writing a series of standalone scenarios representing some of the combat actions that took place on the island in June and July of 1944. I'm hoping that I will be able to accompany the scenarios with some nice maps that represent the terrain the island, and the fortifications that Japan had used to try to stop the invading American forces. I will include set-ups for both the maps I hope to post and standard maps. My ETA to finish and post these is the end of the spring. So look for updates in this thread as my work progresses. If possible, I'll keep updates on my working processes in case anyone is interested in how I go about creating a scenario. _________________ Powerful men are well advised not to use violence,

This sounds great! Any plans to make the scenarios incremental? So the more troops you loose in the invasion of the beaches the less troops you have to fight in the battles to take the airfield and the interior. And the more troops you loose in those battles the less you have to defend with in the final banzai attack. _________________ Trade List at:

It's a possibility, but I did intend them to be standalone. My problem with having losses carry over to other scenarios is that as the campaign progresses, momentum can build leaving later scenarios very unbalanced. One player ends up literally scraping the bottom of the barrel (or tackle box) for units. Many people may elect to call it a day with the end result inevitable and those later scenarios never get played. If this were the least bit realistic the Japanese would be hosed anyway against the bottomless pit of American industry and manpower. That being said, I've successfully linked standalone scenarios before and it would be possible to have an optional rule variant written for those who want to play a linked campaign. _________________ Powerful men are well advised not to use violence,

For linked-campaign maybe add a "reserve" pool of units?
it's true it'd would be awfull to play the last game with a lone imperial sergeant...

The last few weeks have been awful to me and have messed up my schedule a bit, including losing the person who I had hoped would help me with my maps. All this culminated in a shattered tooth last Friday! Ugh... I'm still getting a chance to swing by to offer my two cents on the forums at least. I have something special for the interim though. I just need to do a little more playtesting before putting it up. _________________ Powerful men are well advised not to use violence,
