Bf 109F + 2 109E Wingmen is 100 points... coincidence?

As I understand what he was saying, the BF109F/2x Wingmen build wouldn't ideally fit the pattern.  You've got the Friedrich to move first and Evade an early attack, you've got a Wingman to weaken an attack on the F, and a Wingman as your kill unit for taking out whatever is going after the Friedrich.  That's maybe a little less than ideal.  I suppose you could use one Wingman to cover the other and trade off when/if one takes damage, then use the Friedrich as the kill unit.   I just don't see as much SA synergy here as I would like.

Not sure why the F would be the 'kill unit' Against Vets/Aces the 109E has the better attack numbers. The 109F Vet would only be slightly better at taking out Average/Poor pilots.

That's a major point of my post.  With this build you can trade out kill units based on the situation, but it is still somewhat less than ideal.

Not sure if this deserves its own thread or not but I'm wondering if others are finding target fixation to be a problem. By that I mean focusing so much on a particular plane, perhaps its damaged or crippled or merely a particular threat, that you're letting another plane get into an advantageous position. I'm seeing my opponents do it and I'm trying to keep myself from doing the same. Those crippled planes sure are tempting though...

Yes, that's a bit of a problem.  It is extremely easy to allow your opponent excellent shots.  In several games, I've given up particularly strong shots while trying to maneuver into a good one for myself.   I'm quickly coming to the conclusion that you should maneuver first to avoid giving the enemy any good shots, and only secondarily, take the best shot possible.

It does seem a bit strange that us 3 are the only ones discussing... whatev! Very Happy

I'm thinking that the starter team of Bf110, Wing, and BfE Ace is a pretty good build... at 110 points, the Bf110 has to move first, so it's your Sacrifice unit, then your Wing covers it, and your Ace is the heavy hitter (you could go with the Gustav if you wanted). If you win Init, try to get you Bf110 guns on a target... and it WILL hit! Very Happy Not a bod team i'd say...

About target fixation, I agree that even I still do that, it's hard not to chase down that crippled unit, but who really cares about the crippled unit? I'm thinking that for the most part, just positioning your planes (climbing/moving to the enemies 10'ish or 2'ish position to allow for a tailing next turn) might be better than getting that one shot that both get a chance at hitting eachother! Very Happy I need to test that out! Shocked

On Fixation - yeah the blood lust is hard to fight... that easy kill is very tempting - so I've taken to using my crippled aircraft as bait... manouvering them to set up possible positions for my less damaged aircraft. If you don't let on to your opponents that is what you are doing then it seems to continue to work... The risk being that destroyed rather than crippled might lose you the game...

Did not know if you would be into Angels 20. Sent you PM re possible trades in (lower central east oz).

Pz

I have played a few games - working on climb and dive maneuvers.

Trying to get Zeke combo to work so will be able to use your bait idea with ease.

I understand we have the "Split S" but I was wondering why we do not have the other half the "Immelmann".?

Tortuga is Richard Baker, the game's designer.

Many thanks ND and an interesting read. I am asking because my enemy asked it right off as we were unboxing the starter set last night and trying out a few games.. I now have ammunition.

Hi guys, just got into the air game. Been reading over the rules and just about ready to try it out. Very interesting discussion so far.
