Post subject: Operation Varsity & Plunder  Reply with quote   (Liked by:0)  Like this post
I am in the process of designing and constructing an AAM scenario depicting the Anglo-American crossing of the Rhine River during March 23-24, 1945. I selected this historic military operation for several reasons: 1. It hasn't been done before to my knowledge 2. Would feature lots of late war equipment that otherwise is rarely seen. 3. Combines a river crossing operation (Op Plunder) with an airborne operation (Op Varsity).

My end goal is to referee this at a game convention, probably Fall In! which occurs on the first weekend of November in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

I'm posting this notice because, as I've done for other scenarios, I'd love to get everyone's feedback, suggestions and comments as I design / create new rules and units for this scenario.

First up, I'm designing several new units and I'm going to post each one individually under the Custom Cards discussion thread. I invite you to look at them and let me know if they are balanced & if they properly reflect the historic unit type.

Sounds awesome! I'm working on a Remagen scenario myself, but I don't know what maps to use. Pegasus, maybe?

Looks like an ambitious project.

Did you ever get another website set to host your previous scenarios?

As time permits I've been continuing to work on this scenario. Currently I'm concentrating on the custom unit cards. Using Adobe photoshop I've created cards for the following:

SdKfz 251/9 “Stummel” (75mm gun)

SdKfz 251/10 (Pak 36)

SdKfz 251/2 (mortar carrier)

Volksgrenadier

Volkssturm Commander

Still to be worked on:

Airspeed Horsa Glider

CG-4 Waco / Hadrian Glider

GAL 49 Hamilcar Glider

Commando

LVT-4 “Water Buffalo”

Douglas C-47 Skytrain

Jeep – Airborne Variant

“Golden Talons” Paratroopers

“Red Devils” Paratroopers

The actual cards will eventually be posted to their respective custom card discussion threads. Right now I'm hammering out the stats for each of these units, so if you have time please look them over and let me know if any of them need adjustments to their cost, attack stats, SAs, flavor texts, start year and spelling.

Thanks for the tip. Are the gliders 15 mm scale or something else? I have some already, but I may need some more.

I had Gaming Models make me a Horsa glider that fits a 3"hex to represent the landing location.  They're cheap to use. Just an idea

here's a sample on a 3" hex.  nothing fancy, but they did the job.  GM has some 15mm Horsa gliders.  order them unpainted...unassembled.

Next on my design agenda:

* Armies for both sides of this scenario. (Now that I have my custom units done I can use their point costs to calculate forces for both sides correctly.)

* Battle map (Already have a rough draft based on historic maps of Operation Plunder / Varsity. Need to transform the historic topography to something playable for this scenario)

* Scenario Rules (Already have a rough draft but it needs to be edited into a form that is easily read and referenced.)
