I just received my latest order which included three ships in this material. Scharnhorst, Amagi, and Jervis Bay. I don't have time for pics right now. I will try to get them on Sunday.

The Scharnhorst and Amagi were definitely banana-bent. The detail is great and the plastic is a little more flexible than the detail plastics, but small features can still be broken. I would rate it as about half-way between the details and WSF on brittle. HMS Jervis Bay was perfect. Nice and flat, nicely detailed, smooth surface. Maybe there is a critical length when the curving becomes an issue?

The clipped support spots were not too prominent, but will have to be filed or sanded down. There are quite a few support "columns" on internal parts of the models that will have to be carefully trimmed as well. One of the models had grooved lines cross-ways across the decks that were fairly prominent. All three were formed completely and properly.

I think if I were just buying one of these for myself I would be inclined to give this plastic a try. It would get too tedious to do all the trimming and sanding on multiples. Not to mention the cost! For me the main issue is the banana bending. I will try the hot/cold treatment method too. If the plastic will hold up to the process and then also "stay flat" afterward then I think it might be worth it for the guys that want a very nice showpiece for themselves. But the bending definitely has to be figured out first.

Printing aircraft in this plastic might be viable. The brittleness is probably borderline. However, sanding/filing the support points might get pretty tricky on such small models. Trimming off the supports would definitely test the brittle characteristic.

And I definitely need to test how well primer will stick to it. It is glassy smooth and a little slippery to the touch. Hopefully hot soapy water will take care of the slippery.

Here is a photo of the three miniatures. Scharnhorst in front, Amagi in the middle, and Jervis Bay in the back. There isn't enough depth-of-field so the Jervis Bay is out of focus. But I think you can see the differences. Scharny and Amagi are warped while Jervis Bay is pretty flat.

I received a second order today with a USS Vestal in Black Hi-def, and it had the problem previously posted of not being completely printed under the bow and the stern. I have sent a request for a replacement for that one.

I also received a Jacob Van Heemskerck and a Norge in Black Hi-def in yet a third order. (The Thanksgiving sale was just too good!)

The Norge came out fine. It is a tiny little guy, and it definitely looks good with the sharp detail. However, the van Heemskerk is slightly warped. Not as bad as the Scharny and Amagi, but still enough that I will need to flatten it. van Heemskerk is fairly small so length evidently isn't the only factor in warping.

So that will probably be the extent of my foray into Black Hi-Def until the "bugs" are worked out. Fortunately, I just ordered this small assortment in Black Hi-Def to test it out. The bulk of my orders were still in WSF.

Scharnhorst in front, Amagi in the middle, and Jervis Bay in back:

Here is my painted version of USS Constellation in Black High Def. I was a bit afraid to dive into this job but after I got going with it, I've decided I really like painting this material. I used Vallejo paints for the most part without primer. After painting I did clear it with a flat clear cover coat.

I've painted this in my Pearl Harbor Cavite Blue scheme with BatDiv 1 turret top colors.
