I got a game of Armada in on Sunday against my girlfriend, my friend, who was supposed to turn up didn't.
This was my girlfriends first game and she loved it. She used to play electronic games (Nintendo) but after exposing her to War @ Sea, Firefly The Boardgame and Armada she's really enjoying tabletop games.

She learnt a hard lesson when she flew her raider right up and parked it in front of my Mon Karren. Other than that the game would have ended up being a draw. The main thing is that she learnt a lot on how to manoeuvre and set up her upgrades on the correct ships and is eager for her next game Smile

Looks awesome, i'd like to try it myself, but I cant find any local players, although the local shops have all sold copies so I know there are players hiding somewhere...

Your girlfriend sounds a lot like mine. Ever since I got her into WAS she loves playing just about anything I do. Armada, Warhammer 40k, FOW, video games, take your pick. Its great having a companion as interested in stuff as you are.

Yeah, I looked at Armada. Picked up the box set cheap from Book Depository of all places.

I like the models, they're thin plastic but generally well detailed and painted.

I just found the rules a little cumbersome and couldn't quite get past the "too busy" stands, with the dials, diagrams, numbers etc all over them.

I guess the miniature gamer in me couldn't quite get used to having a lot of info on the base rather than on a "unit data card" off the board.

Having said that, I am glad this scale of game is doing well. I much prefer "grand battles" over the "skirmish" scale that is X-Wing.
