The old R class battleships the poorer sister to the QE class may have been slow and old!! But the sight of one escorting a convoy was enough to put the ugly sisters off from attacking after all 8 15 inch guns is nothing to be sniffed at and beats 9 11 inch!!! So for convoys they were well suited as there slow speed they could not keep up with other fleets!
So yes relegated to secondary duties maybe and nick named coffin ships by Churchill maybe but they could still pack a punch!!!

Yes that's partially why HMS Ramillies gets the Intimidation SA.

In reality of course, Scharnhorst & Gneisenau were more than a match for Ramillies if they hadn't been under orders not to attack convoys escorted by capital ships.

Yes that is true i wonder how the r class perform against the ugly sisters in the game?
Can never understand why Scharnhorst and Gniesanau have that nickname as I think they are quite graceful!!!!

The convoy and the escort are 'Cinderella', S&G are the Ugly Sisters. It's a Cinderella reference.

The RAF also called S&G 'Salmon and Gluckstein'.

Like uncle joe said,
Quantity has it's own quality, the RN could suffer loose a R-Class a lot more than Germany could stand to loose S or G.

Indeed!

Precisely - plus even relatively light damage might leave them vulnerable to a subsequent concentration of British ships.

As it was, Scharnhorst & Gneisenau came across a convoy that wasn't escorted by a British heavy so they were right to follow orders.

in 1940, the S & G encountered HMS Renown and in a running battle, the older British BC inflicted more damage than it received;  The two German BCs fled.
Had these two ship battled with the Revenge class BB, its 15"Guns would have penetrated their armor long before their smaller 11"Guns could damage the Battleship.  And if one of the BCs had been damaged & slowed, the Home Fleet &/or Force H from Gibraltar would have hunted it down and made it go away...

Yes that is what I thought, so surely if there had  have been a straight gun duel between an R or QE Battleship and they could not run away they would have been sunk?

I thinki that one would have been sunk, and the other German BC & the British BB would have pounded each-other to where one was damaged and the other sunk. Not sure which would be the victor...

My money would be on the British BB's if they could not escape and run away!
