Post subject: Colorized WW1 and WW2 naval photos

I've learned how to colorize B&W photos, so I've made the following up to now:
AETOS (1912)
SMS Seydlitz (WW1)
SMS Derfflinger (WW1)
KILKIS (1919, Smyrna)
ELLI (1920s)
RICHELIEU (1935)
ASHIGARA (1937)
VAINAMOINEN (1938)
ROMA (WW2)
USS ARCHERFISH (WW2)
USS TRENTON (1943)
I'm not as good as that Japanese website yet, but I think they are ok. I may make more periodically.

Pretty cool. I love WW2 color photos, I have a couple books full of them. Most of them tend to be aircraft, first because I love airplanes, and second because it seems the aircrews were most likely to have cameras capable of taking color photos. They bring a sense of realism to the era that I don't quite get with B&Ws. Thanks ND, can't wait to see more!

As a part-time photographer I am not a big fan of colorizing B & W photos. But it looks like you are learning quickly. Some of the more brightly camouflaged ships would be interesting to see as they were freshly painted, but from what I have read the paints during WWII faded very quickly. Especially the blue tints like the US widely used. That is why the camouflage patterns are usually not very distinct in the photos.

Wow! Amazing work. I hope you post more. These are beautiful. It really brings the ships to life. Reminds me of that country song, "You should have seen it in color."

I like what you've done so far but agree with weedsrock2 that the camouflaged ships would be really cool to see. The nicely colored ones of course but even the black and white Kriegsmarine vessels. A nice shot of the Bismarck, the Admiral Hipper, etc.

Its kind of nice having the color to really make the ships 'pop' from the image. With BW things can tend to blend a lot (especially with those older photos). If you feel up for it NeuralD, care to take a pass at my lovely italian battleship?

I'm afraid I can't really take request for these, because they are very time-consuming.
