I did a little digging, but couldn't find anything.

Does anyone know if Japan ever put long-lance torps onto a sub?

Actually there was no such thing as a "long lance torpedo", long lance was a nickname given to them by the U.S. Navy.

To the Japanese they were just another type of torpedo -

Type 91 aerial torpedo
Type 93 ship torpedo
Type 95 sub torpedo
Type 97 midget sub torpedo

Hope this helps.

Thanks Vetnor... it definitely set me off in the right direction.

The type 93 was what is typically classified as a "long lance" and only used on surface ships.  The 95 was a smaller torpedo that had to be made due to the smaller size of submarine torpedo tubes, in addition to the ammount of pure oxygen in the type-93 torps making it them dangerous to use in a sub.
