Post subject: finalized ALPHA rules.
|
|
|
the rules listed here can still change but are the ones we are going to start playtesting with.
Lotharlutjens should be the only one to move anything here. if he directs Neural Dream, Jesse James, or myself we will do so as well.
Ok Alpha facing rules test time:
All standard WAS rules apply with the following exceptions.
1) Setup All ship models must be setup with their bow facing towards an adjacent sector.
2) Facing The row of sectors extending outward from the bow of your ships model is called the Bow FOF (Field of Fire).
The row of sectors extending outward from the stern of your ships model is called the Stern FOF.
Everything else is called the Broadside FOF
Note that both the Bow and the Stern FOF are narrow 1 sector wide collumn while the Broadside FOF takes up a much bigger area.
When an enemy ship positions himself in either your Bow FOF or your Stern FOF, while at the same time positioning your ship in his ship's Broadside FOF, The enemy ship has done a classic naval maneuver called crossing your "T". Ships with there "T" crossed are at a decided disadvantage because not all their guns can bear.
3) Movement A ship may move to any adjacent sector that does not violate standard stacking and terrain rules. When a ship moves, her stern points at the sector the ship has just vacated. Alternatively a ship may stay in the sector it is currently in and change its facing towards any other adjacent sector. Either of these options cost one movement point. When a ship uses up all of it's movement points that ships movement is over.
Lighter vessels such as Destroyers, Torpedo Boats and Submarines are exempt from the new movement rules ( Ie. They can change facing freely ).
4) Combat Look at a ship's statistic card. You will note there are a string of numbers for each type of weapon In each FOF. The first number is for range 0, the second is for range 1, the third number is for range 2 and the fourth number for range 3. Simply determine which FOF the target vessel is in, then count the range. This is the number of die rolled for the attack on that vessel. In cases where there are less than 4 numbers, the missing numbers are considered 0. ( Example 2/1 would be two die at range 0, One die at range 1 and there would be 0 attack die at ranges greater than 1 because that particular weapons system does not have the ability to attack at ranges greater than 1.
Range 0 attacks have no facing and all range 0 attacks are considered as Broadside FOF.
New SA ALL AHEAD FULL ( added at Aquarius's request )
This unit may move straight ahead one sector at the end of it's movement provided that this unit did not change course during it's normal movement step.
{EXPERIMENTAL PLUNGING FIRE RULES} in extended range attacks only, 6's count as three hits. 5's still count as one as above, 4 or less on die roll score counts as a miss. This rule would replace the Dreadnought Rising ER SA.
Edit By N.D.: I removed two rules (ER and facing of torpedoes) because they are on the cards and there is no need to remember them. They should be in the stats guidelines instead. _________________

Are these current? We are debating having a DR playtesting session this Monday, in addition to WaS, and I would like to introduce some of the gamers to it. _________________ I have to make a new sig because my old one is too wide for this new look... |

We'll need to have a write-up of the rules quite soon if possible, so that we include DR in the forumini Olympics. Anyone willing to do this? _________________

Still working on the rule book with diagrams/examples.
The toughest part is organization and getting all the rules compiled. _________________ Always Flying. Always Fighting. RIP JIMMY.
