So, back to the Skua.  Where are we at the moment on it?

The version we made for our group's campaign was:

Blackburn Skua Mk. II

Fighter 1939 8 points

2 Dice Strafing
5 Dice Anti-aircraft
8 Dice Bomb Attack (We base our stats on bombload capacity)

Armor 4/7/1

Mission Selection: This aircraft counts as either a Fighter or a Dive Bomber.

Cruiser Killer: This aircraft rolls 1 additional die with making Bomb attacks against Cruisers.

I don't know, it seems a little too strong.

Anyway, how's this sound to everyone...
AA 5
Bomb 5
4/6/1
Mission Selection
Poor Dogfighter

5 points.

Though, I wonder how useful bomb 5 is... it'll hit destroyers and probably some cruisers... but that's about all it will do... only advantage it has over the expertly strafing Beaufighter is 1 die and the ability to apply expert SAs (and the Brits don't have an expert bomber SA)  Maybe be generous an up its bomb load to 6?

Against enemy fighters they were torn up, but they were up against things like 109s and CR.42s (which weren't that bad at the start of things) They did down a few bombers though, including SM.79s.  That's why I threw in 'Poor Dogfighter'  Against bombers they're AA5, against fighters they're AA4 with 4/6/1 armor... so they aren't really a threat to fighters unless they get reallllly lucky.

I like the Poor Dogfighter SA, because it does indeed reflect one of the problems with this plane, and it's very simple.

Poor Dogfighter - This unit rolls one less die when making AA attacks against enemy fighters.

You could try to make a case for 6 Bomb dice, but I think it might be a stretch.  I'm sure the British also wished it was just a little bit better than it was, so I think it might be good enough as it is, if that makes sense.   Wink

Fair enough, I can live with bomb 5.

Is this one settled?

I believe this is where we are at.  Correct me if I'm wrong.

Blackburn Skua  6pts
Nov. 1938
Speed 12
MG1
AA5

4/6/1
Mission Selection
Poor Dogfighter:  This unit rolls one less die when making AA attacks against enemy fighters.

I think the cost should be dropped to 5.  It's worse than a Sea Hurricane by a fairly substantial margin.

A Sea Hurricane can't bomb. But I tend to agree anyway.
