I like to play early war years. Tanks are very simple but also somehow more romantic than those big tanks from the year 1945. So, what is your favourite 1939 year tank and why? If you have any nice stories about your favourite units, please share
This is the first poll about your favourite units. The idea was by WarGamerX. Poll will last for 14 days. What should be the next poll? Do you want the poll last longer or shorter time? _________________

tough call for me. I said Ha-Go. solid on infantry and vehicles by 1939 standards. fast enough and cheap. with some fun abilities. _________________ formerly Polish_Horsy on A&A minis website

Went with the Char because it kicked my backside in the olympics. _________________ Aaron

Elite Pz.IV D hands down. I play axis mostly and in 1939 its crackshot makes up for 3/3 armour and its cost is reasonable. In 1939, its only really vunerable to the Char B1-bis, which again crackshot can mean it can go either way. _________________

Yeah, Char B1- bis is tough nut to crack in year 1939. I played against France and that player had 2xChar B1-bis, 2x Somua and 2x Renault. My german forces were annihilated. Char B1-bis is really the power house of the year 1939. _________________

The reason the French armoured forces lost to the Germans was not about the quality of the tank itself, the French were clearly superior but they lacked radios, which are essentially to any organized armoured fighting force. They were also deployed sparsly, against concentrated Panzer formations. _________________

In reality the Somua. The cataphract of the war. In the game the Char (speed 3 lol - it could barely roll). _________________

I went with the T-35. I've used it a couple of times and never lost it once! The only important thing was to keep it's side armor away from teh enemy. Otherwise, it's able to chew up axis armor and infantry. _________________ The rabbits are coming, hooray, hooray...

Oh and I thought it was because they were manned by French troops.
Sorry, I could not resist. _________________ Aaron

| It has to be the Elite Panzer IV Ausf.D. It's the only 1939 tank I ever use in unlimited games. |

Char should have a special ability requiring a fuel dump for speed 3. Otherwise speed 2. They had to fuel twice per day.
Also it should have prone to breakdown. Those nasty French Communists did some serious sabotage in the factories. They damaged some planes pretty bad as well. _________________ formerly Polish_Horsy on A&A minis website

agreed about Somua. The fact that an R-35 is almost better than a Somua is crazy. _________________ formerly Polish_Horsy on A&A minis website

I voted R35 because in game turns an extremly cheap piece of armour.
Also it was used the Romania Mare Division before it was named.
Heart lies with R2 though _________________

The Char is the better tank but I voted for the Elite Panzer IV just because I use it the most. I've killed lots of T-34s with it. _________________

I voted for the Char but I really like the BT-7. If the M3 Stuart wasn't so good the BT-7 would be a real force in the game. _________________

Personally- I love the Somua. Great blend of cost and ability. I think that complexity SA can really hurt. Happened to me once- I had my rear armor facing a PAK-40 _________________

OTHER here: the best 1939 is clearly the KV-1, sure it was made better later on, but in 1939 he found no match...
(Or did I misunderstand and you menat AAm tanks only ? - then I would go with the BT-7... _________________ [img.]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/db/Animated_gun_turret.gif[/img]

No no, the other is just for that. Other options
Next poll I make, will be clearer so there will be only minimal chance for confusion _________________

| What, no panzer 38(t), my very favorite early war tank. I am shocked and dismayed! Maybe even a little hurt. |
