NO VIDEO GAMES!!!  Evil or Very Mad  Evil or Very Mad  Evil or Very Mad  Evil or Very Mad

Then can be board or miniature

Only putting up the ones I have that I can remember off the top of my head.

Axis and Allies - 8

WaS - 8

AMM- 8

Red November - 4

Tannhauser - 7 (lack of new products hurts this game at the moment, otherwise it would be a 8 or 9)

Battlelore - 8 (Could be a 10 if they get out new races like they want to and other goodies)

Wings of War WWI- 7 (8 with the minis)

Wings of War WW2 - 7 (8 with minis)

Chess- 10 Great game, but I SUCK SO MUCH! (I am sure others will put it in here)

Age of Dreadnought - 6

Flames of War - 5 (I hate painting, I hate buying a book for every damn army, it is just my preference, realistic rules, just too much for me)

Clue- 7

Guess Who - 4 (an 7 or 8 for young kids)

Mouse Trap -6 (lots of memories with this game)

Arkham  Horror - 7

DUST - 7

RISK - 7

Starcraft - 5

Tide of Iron -7

Wings over France - 1 (worst 2 bucks spent ever!)

Monsterpocolypse - 5 (Great mechanics, not a fan of the theme or boosters)

WoW CMG - 7 have a starter that is it. Nice mechanics but it is another money pit. Maybe when I win the lotto?

Zombies!!! - 7 DUMB FUN! in a box. Good party game or beer and pretzels.

AT-43 - 6 Some people like it more than others. To me I could play it or not, just don't want to spend a ton of money on it. bought a few things.

The Siege of Jerusalem - 5 Neat little game but gets bogged down with rules and hundreds of cardboard counters.

Mechwarrior - 3 Utter crap. I like the big Mechs though

Pirates - 8 I liked it for what the game was, a fun fast little game. But boy did the minis SUCK SUCK SUCK!

Anachronism - 5

Orc wars - 2 Bought this at a garage sale a year ago for 5 bucks. The rules are just horrible. The idea is there though.

Samurai Swords-9 if you have the full five players, 7 for anything less

Empire of Liberty-7 just too BNP to rate any higher as a minis game.

WAS-7 same reason

Zombies!!!-7 same again

Midevil-7 the Ash version of Zombies!!!

FoW-8 Playability meets history, and I LIKE to paint. Would be a 9 if they'd do early war and pacific

WAB-7 Easy to teach because they use the well-known GW mechanics, fairly historical, distribution and support suck.

LOTR-8, up from 7 due to the new rules. The old ones were useless for big battles.

Sharpes Practice-8 good rules for skirmish nappies, little on the BNP side though.

Battlelore-7 delightful board/wargame

Memoir '44-7 the WWII version, with Japanese!!!

Jagpanzer-10, not for everybody, but one hell of a realistic WWII simulation. Also the reason I got to shoot the hell out of Harold Coyle's T-34's once...

Contemptable Little Armies-8 little too generalized, but due to playability my rules of choice for colonials.

Panzer Leader/Panzer Blitz-9 would be a ten but it's a hex game. I play with 10mm minis.

Battleground-7 BNP again, I'm going to use 10mm figs for it too.

Civilization-9 NOT the Sid Myers video game, but the book case game, fun as hell!

DBA-7 still BNP, but fantastic rules for quick-play ancients! DBM and the later versions suck

Full Thrust-8 Heir to Starfire, which they ruined trying to turn it into SFB.

Starfire-9 only pre-Imperial Starfire, after that it's a 2

Chess-7 too rock-paper scissors.

Go-9 Much more challenging.

Squad Leader-9 love it or hate it, it's the king of WWII company level bookcase games. Also played in 10mm.

Operaration Overlord (Italeri)-8 BNP, but with a Turn system that's got to played to be believed! Hell of a skirmish WWII game!

Critter Commandos- 7 BNP furry futurewars! Rabbits and Empire! Down with the Ratzis!

Been playing off and on since I was 16 and locked up in boystown, inherited three seperate people's army man and wargame collections, so I'll stop there. No, you do not want to know how many others I have...

Battletech (10) Now called Classic Battletech. It was my first foray into miniatures gaming. Catalyst Games has reinvigorated it with the solid support it needed since the passing of FASA Inc.

Flames of War (9) Well researched and probably the best supported historical miniatures game available. I love painting so that is not a problem. I do have a problem with the Warhamsterlike "I go, you go" shtick , but overall its an exellent game.

TSR AD&D 2nd Ed. Battlesystems (9) D&D's mass combat miniatures rules were and still are better than Warhmsterer Fantasy ever was. You could convert your characters into Battlsystem stats and put them on the battlefield. You could also build virtually any creature type army from the Monstrous Compendium using the conversion rules. Where it broke down was in its magic system. a Seventh level meteor swarm would devestate prized units such as a 350 point unit of Ultra-Heavy Cavalry. Our solution was to limit the spells to 5th level.

Warhamster FartyK Umpteenthth Ed. (2) What started out as a fun game with Rogue Trader and 2nd Ed. has now mutated into a power gaming, buy the latest army and Codex or lose monstrosity. Its buy our latest eye candy and to hell with game balance. I was a longtime player until 5th edition hit and I have not played another game since. I do have one thing good to say for it. It drove to me to play War at Sea.

Warhammer Fantasy (6) Again another once decent game that is suffering from silly, stupid power creep.

War at Sea (9) A great beer and pretzels game. While it is way abstract its still great game.

Chess (10) A game at which I seriously suck fumes.

Panzer Blitz (10) My first true wargame.

Napoleon's Battle's (10) I play this with my cousin in New Orleans. He and I are true Napoleonic buffs. Playing this Game invokes a true feel of Napoleonic grand tactics.

Battle Cry (10) Nice American Civil War boardgame

Knight's Cross (9) A WWII Air Combat game based on the classic Game Designer's Workshop WWI game Blue Max.

Squad Leader (9) Played it many years ago with Lothar Lutjens and Texsword.

Salut y'all!

Good news! Fantasy Flight has just obtained complete control of this line from the French company that was running the show previously. So expect some good stuff coming soon.

And if you like Tannhauser you should check out a game called Okko. Feudal Japan samurai warriors fighting against and alongside demonically possessed monstrosities.

The Heroes expansion is due out very soon. Rules are already available on Fantasy Flights website. And by the end of the year there will be a Creatures expansion containing an Elemental (repaint), a Giant (repaint) and a multiheaded Hydra. Cool mini. If it takes a hit, pull off a head. When all the heads are gone it dies. Also by years end there will be a Dragons expansion. Comes with three dragons of different types (a worm, a drake and a dragon I believe).

That IS good news NjCO! Thank you!

Yup TG, Gave up on all GW games except LOTR last year when they nerfed my Dark Angels again. They're trying real hard to lose the current historical rules wars as well, in spite of having a HUGE leg up on the sets coming out now.

These ratings aren't set in stone. I tend to go up and down on each game, depending on my mood at the moment.

A&A (Anniversary): 8 - By far the best version of the game. Though I am looking forward to Pacific 1940 and Europe 1940.

A&A minis: 7 - I love this game, but I haven't gotten to play in a while, since the two people I played with moved away.

A&A Naval: 7 - It doesn't rate as high as the land game, but I get to play it more often.

Railroad Tycoon the Boardgame: 8 - This is the 'old standby' for boardgame night. It's the only train game I like. Well, Iron Dragon is interesting, it just takes forever unless you use two trains.

Warrior Knights: 7 - I would have rated this a 6, but I got the expansion so I'm having fun with it again.

WoW WWI: 7 - This is a highly enjoyable game, but it's fallen out of favor a bit now that the WWII minis are out.

WoW WWII: 9 - This is the game I've been playing the most. Highly enjoyable. I can't wait for the dive bomber minis to release.

Dust: 7 - A nice global strategy game for when people don't want something as complicated as Axis & Allies.

Formula D: 6 - I really like this game, but only with a large number of players. Five minimum. If there's six plus, then it get's an 8.

Robo Rally: 6 - Another game I rate higher if there's lots of players. It's pure chaos. The good kind.

Tannhauser: 7 - I'll echo Jesse James' sentiments on this one. It's a great game though.

Epic Armageddon: 8 - My favorite of the Games Workshop games, and the only one I play anymore. I think it's the best version of Epic they've done. Too bad it doesn't really get supported anymore.

That's about it for me. I've got a couple more games, but they're either recent acquisitions, so I haven't played them enough to rate them properly, or they're ones I don't play at all anymore. I'm thinking of picking up Arkham Horror, though the number of expansions it has is a bit daunting. I also pre-ordered the re-release of Space Hulk, so I'll have two Games Workshop games that I play.

I'm interested in picking up a civil war game.  We visited the Perryville KY battlefield.  I think the boy might enjoy civil war history but i need a good game to draw him in.

Since i can't try every game what's a good way to evaluate the literature?

Weeee! Now here's a topic I can sink my teeth into...

A&A WaS: Dunno, haven't played it enough yet. Addiction rating is a 9 though.

I don't want to ruffle any feathers here but Risk and Monopoly are poor games.
Risk is far too luck dependent to be taken seriously and Monopoly is likewise. I'd shudder to give either a rating over 4.

Chess is the perfect example of a narrow but deep game. It takes a life time to learn (or many years of serious study). To me that makes Chess a niche game for only those willing to devote the time to play it well. And that's NOT me. I'm too busy playing other games.  8

Diplomacy: Everything that Risk wants to be minus the luck. The only (and I believe I do mean ONLY) negative to this game is the difficuly in assembling 7 players for a 5+ hour game (which is why Dip is played by mail and email so frequently).   10

Tigris & Euphrates: My favorite "Euro" game (to date), T&E is a wonderful combination of strategy and tactics with a wide variety of game play allowing several styles of play. It is good with 2-4 players and so far has been quite a challenge.   8

Rosenkoenig: Clever and challenging and easy to learn and play. The complexity of the opponent and the seriousness with which you approach it will determine your experience. I've played quick, fun games with my wife and serious brain exercises with gamers. Both are fun.  7

Small World: Silly and fun with enough "game" skills required to be challenging against skilled opponents. A good casual game.    7

Kings and Things: Small World on steroids. I enjoyed this game quite a bit when it came out... probably because I usually won. No one else seemed to grasp the tactics of the game. They were having too much fun fighting flying brontosaurs versus killer penguins (and such).    7

King Maker (AH): A decent enough game when played with more than three players. But the lack of a serious combat resolution system and the never ending quality of the game detract from the over all enjoyment. It is damn pretty though and touches on an otherwise under-explored period of History.    6

Nuclear War: Seriously perverse and silly. The game works well and never bogs down. Even when there is no winner (total nuclear armeggedon) the game is fun to play.    8

A House Divided: A good American Civil War game with more strategy than tactics. Also involves more luck than I'd like to see but slight modifications of the rules (especially regarding the "marches" die roll) make for a very good game.    7

Rise and Decline of the Third Reich: The Strategic Gamers wet dream. Got 100 hours? It's a ...    10

Arduin Grimoire/AD&D: Or however you wish to describe whatever role playing fantasy game your campaign has evolved into. Depending on your gaming grouo's creativity and fun-o-meter it should be a... 10

Damn, Hoth is right... this could go on for hours...
Some quickies
Titan    6
Talisman    7
Blitzkrieg    7
Afrika Corps    8
Battle of the Bulge   6
D-Day      9
Gettysburgh    8
Guadalcanal    6
1914   5
Wooden Ships and Iron Men   8
Blue Max    7
Start-o-matic Football    9
Score Four    9

Gotta stop... I must go play a game...
