If you look carefully in the pic (enlarge it) the turret top of #4 turret is clearly painted red. Look through the catapult mounted on turret #3.
If you look at the other time life pic, the full ship picture of the USS Nevada (and enlarge it), the turret top of #2 turret is also painted red.

I'm not seeing the red #2 top. I see a brownish patch of farmland, but that is my eye.

Like the quote from the guy says ..... it was started, but not complete at the time of the Pearl Harbor attack. Of course it is speculation, but should be looked into for accuracy. I just thought it was interesting that after all we looked at a opposing view is revealed.
