Post subject: Set X [Mid-War: 1941-1943] Information so far [Nov. 19th] Reply with quote
It seems right now that Set X is rather tentative in nature, but also that there is a set plan in place (according to postings by M2A0). While there is not much information on which to rely right now, I don't think it would be a bad idea to begin collecting the bits of information which are being leaked to us - one can never start too early, after all.

GENERAL INFORMATION
---------------

There will be 50 units in this set.
Tentative release date - August, 2010.
Most units from this set will have 1942-1943 action dates, with a select few having 1944 availability dates. Thus, there will be no units with 1939-1941 , or 1945 action dates.
Many units from the cancelled set "Italy and the Balkans" are planned for inclusion in this set.
There will likely be no repainted T-34/76 or M3 Stuart with a nationality change in this set (according to M2A0).
Newly introduced nations in this set will include New Zealand, Yugoslavia, and Croatia (and possibly others, as the complete units list has not been confirmed at this time of writing).
There will be at least one tank commander in this set (referred to by M2A0 as a 'Panzer Commander' - possibly indicative of a German command tank).
There will be at least one aircraft in this set.
There will be no hero units in this set.
There will be no obstacles in this set.
There will be no support units in this set.
It is apparently undecided whether any ace aircraft will appear in this set.

Two major countries that seem to jump at me for not being on the list are Greece and Italy.  I know Italy has now got some pretty good pieces already (minus some decent artillery), but Greece needs quite a few more (mountain troops and artillery) to really be a stand alone army, even though the British would be a natural choice to back them up.

Why are you so sure that the Greeks and the Italians aren't in the game?

Don't know that they are not in the game, or out of it for that matter.  Just that they are as of now, not included in what we know are in the game.

I am hoping they are in the game.  But there are only 50 pieces and that is a finite number, more than likely not subject to change. Sad

You're pretty knowledgeable about this stuff.  Just come up with units that are historical and proxy them in.  You could make your own cards or use Sharpe's cards, he has two dozen Chinese pieces you could print out as is, and just use proxy pieces or get some from FoW or Peter Pig or someone.  Then present them to your friends and use the logic that before set two came out all those new pieces would have been unofficial.  You are just introducing them to the game early so China can be a viable army.  The pieces you are introducing will be introduced in set ten, eleven and twelve. lol  Or, you can wait like they did.  Don't forget HHR also has cards and so does the forum now.  Shoot, we have a whole section devoted to Custom Cards.

@ Leader DarkAura_17 - No set theme has been announced yet, and even the set list appears to be somewhat tentative, although M2A0 indicates that it is primarily concrete at this point.

The theme will be Middle War, mostly 42-43 units with a little bleed into early 44.

Although not a Pacific themed set there will be a few new Marine & Japanese units.

Oh this is GOOD news for my Romanian and Hungarian armies.  And approximate could mean five pieces as that would make them pretty competitive in my game.  Whoo hoo!!!

Please tell me there will be a Greek unit in the new set  pray.

Btw, if you intend to make new Greek units, I'm sure you'll find the ww2 section of my blog useful. Later this month I will have an interview with a veteran of the 1st Ski Battalion (93-year old, currently living in the UK) and some of his amazing in-action photos from 1940 that he sent me, in case you plan to make Greek ski troops Wink.

Unofficially there will be no new Greek units in Set XI.

This is great news though, so much for an "early war" set, I guess they crapped on that idea which is fine with me, I'd rather see a mix of units from 39-45 but that's just me. A new Marine unit is probably a commander of some sort.

New Zealanders are a welcome addition for sure. I don't understand the Yugloslavia AND Croatia units but then again, I don't understand that country at all. No offense, it's split up into like 5 countries now, maybe more, who knows, they all hate each other, and no one really seems to care.

During WWII, you had Yugoslav partisans and you had communists I think or maybe they were both. I don't even know if they knew what side they were on! Very confusing, I should read up more on it if they're going to be included. I hope they don't take up any rare slots.
