"I felt that Task Force had a lot of very nice sculpts that were hamstrung by mediocre painting, and we’ve worked hard to try to make it better."
I was considerably more displeased with the sculpts in set two.
Far more "blocky" 5in duals, fused barrels and single mold barbetts/turrets....not to mention teh amidship guns on Yamashiro were unable to turn.......
Paint was fine.
Looking at what AAM is getting, sculpt/paint wise, (and how long it takes for us to get sets) I have set very high expectation of this set.
As well, rounding out the French is wonderful news....I just can't tell if he's hinting towards Bearn or not....A CV would certinally round it out. |

Well, I think your right that we'll see the french carrier in IV. I hope that we fill some CA/DD slots for france too...as well as offensive and defensive air capabilities.
It also sounds like he has worked on quality since set II. I hope that includes turrets! _________________ -Greyh

which shows that the foruminians' feedback and the French lobby has worked well. I remind you of the feedback results I had sent R.B. via pm some months ago:

I posted the following...
HI Richard,
Does that mean that the generally lower quality turret sculpts of Set 2 will be in Set 3?
Ie
*the KGV turret sculpts looking worse than the VERY similar Dunkerque and Richelieu turrets?
*the 15" turret sculpts on the Warspite being inexplicably worse (and smaller..?) than the turrets on the Hood even though they are the SAME guns in real life?
*the 14" turret sculpts on the Yamashiro being also inexplicably worse (and smaller..?) than the turrets on the Kongo/Haruna even though they are the SAME guns in real life?
I really hope not. For me that was the only issue I had with Set 2. And even though its been chatted about many times over many forums, there's not been an official word over why the inferior sculpts made it into set 2 (and now into set 3 by the sound of it) when the aforementioned turrets had no reason to be inferior as great sculpts either already existed in set 1 (Hood for Warspite and Kongo for Yamashiro) or were very similar (Richelieu for KGV)
Big Al aka Admiral Tee on the AAMinis forums.
Sigh... More buying Hoods and Kongo/Harunas to refit Warspite/Yamashiro...
And the KGV will look like a 2 year old from China has made it...

RB just put another post in his blog addressing the turrent quality issue. It sounds like they are making it more of a focus. _________________ -Greyh

It does sound promising. It's unfortunate that we will always deal with crappy KGV repaints and Warspite repaints, but at least things should be better in the future.
I'll say this, though - the crappy turrets don't seem to be affecting the secondary market prices of KGV and Warspite very much. KGV in particular seems to go for a lot of money.
Of course, it would be fairly foolish to pay a lot for KGV right now, since PoW in the next set will drag KGV's value down a lot. Look at what happened when they put Haruna in Set II. Kongo was arguably the most expensive piece in Set I (besides maybe Enterprise) and its value has come down big time since Haruna showed up. _________________

Ooooh, RB replied!
Well at least he was aware of the poor turret sculpts.
It seemed as if there were only a few players talking about it and no one else, including RB, recognised it.

Agreed, but suprisingly Enterprise is holding it's value only dropping a couple $. _________________ Aaron

Oh no. There were a LOT of players talking about it and he definitely got the message. _________________

My guess is that Enterprise is so iconic that it maintains its demand even when there are re-paints available. _________________

turrets in set II were bad and the towers on the new rare sculpts were possibly worse. Several of mine were 15 to 20 degrees off of correct alignment.
unfortunatly he confirms the bad turrets will remain a part of the new set for reprints.
"We can't really do much about turrets for "reprints," so the Prince of Wales in set 3 has the same physical components as the KG V did in set 2. "
So get ready for a few ugly sisters. I know I've had to put up with a some ugly sisters in my life. _________________ formerly Polish_Horsy on A&A minis website

I've had a good deal of luck with an exacto knife and KGV. The turrets look much nicer.
He seems to be saying, the paint will make up for the ugly. |
