I think adding a "scratch" and "conversion" category would be better as well.
(I realize mine is technically a conversion since I used the base of an MTB)
And then running that as two separate events.
I think adding a "Components list" would be fun too, as i am curious to what some of these are made of. *cough cough fort drum* |

FORT DRUM components:
Main Body:
Foam Core cut to shape and then sanded down.
Matte Board for the elevated area and the landing jutting out the side.
Painted the base with watered down putty and then let dry to try and get the concrete feel.
4 14in Guns:
Tank turrents from the original Axis&Allies game(had two copies of the game). Cut off the barrel and added two pieces of wire.
3 AA Guns:
Bomber engines from the original Axis&Allies game.
4 6in Guns:
Scrap Plastic, drilled two holes and added wire. Carved out the side of the foam core and glued them inside.
Buildings:
Layered Matte board to desired size. Roof is a small piece of paper folded in half length wise. windows painted on.
Conning Tower:
A bunch of small wire bunched together and being held with sculpey.
Water Tank & Crane
Diode and different size wire.
All painted dark grey and blacked washed and painted light grey and blacked washed and building painted whiteish. _________________

Carrion, I am a big fan of your submission, you did a great job making it look like a slab of concrete. The paint and texture are spot on.
I think that a separate land and sea category might be a good idea, and maybe a scratch and conversion category. The only down side to that is that RB and myself are the only land entries, that would have been a small competition, although I am confident I could have locked down 2nd place. _________________ Nuts! - General Anthony McAuliffe

There are only 8 submissions in total. If we had separate land and naval there would be only 2 land submissions. If we had separate scratchbuilt and conversions there would be even fewer of each game. Also, the creatitity event shouldn't be dominated by various types of modelling. There are many more types of creatitivity that we can compete on. _________________

Funny thing is, Buzzkill I'm a land guy don't even play WAS, but liked the Fort Drum idea so went with it. I did some plane bases but posted them here http://aaminis.myfastforum.org/about6143.html before the competition started so I couldn't use them and had to think of something else, and knowing that the boards are WAS-centric (not that there is anything wrong with that) went with it. _________________

Last year I had to choose between entering my WAS terrain and AAM terrain. I went with WAS because it seemed to have a greater following even though I personally think my AAM work was better.
I collect AAM and WAS, but that USS New York was by far my 1st choice. 2nd Choice would have been difficult. I wish WoTC put half the effort into their product that some of the modelers on this forum do.
Great Job All! |
I agree with afilter 100% on all counts. It was tough to choose just one. I wanted to vote for an AAM entry too. Lots of awesome work here. I didn't enter anything this go round because drittal was entering his USS New York scratch build. There is no way I could compete against it. That is just way too awesome piece of work.. _________________ The SCA: Just an excuse for getting dressed up in Medieval clothing and beat each other up with padded sticks! |

All of these are absolutely amazing. I actually looked at the entries several times before I could vote.
Drittal's USS New York is amazing, but I had to go with Carrion's Fort Drum for shear originality.
I am amazed every time I look at the work put forth by the forumembers, and this is no exception. _________________

Using the current creativity challenge as a basis for your assertion could be a bit misleading. I'm betting that if there were two different catagories WAS and AAM that you would have likely seen more of a turn out by the AAM folks. Not to sound spurious or arrogant but I wonder if the AAM folks feel intimidated by the WAS folks. So when the challenge is lumped all together, those who would have entered something don't because their entry is not being judged against other entries within the same game system. Speaking for myself, I didn't enter for 2 reasons. 1)Drittal. New York just blew me away. 2) My entry would be judged against non-related entries, that is non-Was entries, so therefore, would not necessarily be looked at in the same way as a land based mini.
I wanted to vote for an AAM unit too, I agree the Ft Drum was way coool, and so was the AA conversion of the tank.
Oh and TF I loved yer conversion too. It was hard makin a choice between yours and Drittal's ship... WAY hard. D's video put it over the top tho... _________________ The SCA: Just an excuse for getting dressed up in Medieval clothing and beat each other up with padded sticks! |

I voted for fort drum.
However this contest had me look certain things up... Fort Drum and the Admiral Popov for instance... A Circular Battleship? WHAT? _________________

| I voted for drittal. Apart from the cool moveable guns and the clean detail work, she's also a fine looking ship. Very impressive. |

if you devide then you can count some more entriys because this contest show up clear favorites early and so some people did not even enter the contest because they see noc chance vs those very good entrys. _________________

The only reason I didn't enter is that real life has taken over. Haven't had sufficient time to do anything in this regard. Now that I can see the light at the end of the tunnel I am hoping to get back to work and play some. Just hoping that light is not a train. lol _________________ It is enough that the people know there was an election. The people who cast the votes decide nothing. I'm an engineer, and let me say it is not a good feeling when a car runs a x-ing right in front of the 17,000 tons] train travelling at 50mph that you are in command of. When you finally stop one mile later, during which time you've called the driver of that car every bad word in the book and even invented a few, you stand up and shiver for a bit then change your underwear.
And that's when they are lucky and we don't hit them.
