This scenario is quite simple and requires the following units.

RN
-1 HMS Hood (in place of the Repulse)
-1 HMS King George V (in place of the Prince of Wales)
-2 HMS Javelin (For Electra and Express)
-2 HrMS Van Galen (For Vampire and Tenedos)

IJN
-16 G4M Betty

This is played on the Blank map, and the goal is for the Allied fleet to make it from one side of the map to the other, the goal for the Japanese Air Force commander is to take out the the two capital ships.

Special Notes
The destroyer mix is to ensure the highest amount of air cover possible for the capital ships, ensuring SOME survivability, but as notable, at least one bomber will always make it through the screen.
The Japanese have enough bombers to do a wave against the sectors every turn for at least the first two turns. They also ignore the Airbase rules for size.

Playing Notes.
For historical accuracy, the Betty Bombers can only use torpedoes, no bomb attacks.

Battlestations Midway Edition
Include in the Royal Navy Squadron the following
1 Ark Royal (For the HMS Hermes)
3 Sea Hurricane
REMOVE
-2 Van Galen

And Include for the Japanese
-6 Zeroes
-2 EXTRA G4M Betty

Special Rules
For this scenario assume the Ark Royal has "Heavy Anti-Air" with six dice at Range 1 and loses "Expert Dogfighter" and "Expert Torpedoes."  The Betties gain the Special Ability "Defensive Armament." The Zeroes gain "Alternate Payload 6."

SPECIAL RULES FOR ALL SCENARIO VERSIONS
The Capital Ships are not allowed to group together in any combination, Repulse/PoW, Repulse/Hermes, PoW/Hermes, unless said combination is the last two ships of any kind left.

Sounds cool.  I'll have to give it a shot sometime.

I typically use some sort of counter in a situation like that.  Pennies work well.

If you have one of the Axis & Allies board games, use the bombers from that game as Betty Bombers.

I assume you have a special rule that says the BBs cannot share the same sector?  Otherwise, putting them together would create the best AA umbrella and limit the number of total attacks made on the BBs.
Isn't base 3 for Hermes a little much?  I suppose for scenario balance it would be fine.
Good setup.  Sounds like a lot of fun!

The Battlestations Midway Edition of the scenario is based on how it works in the game.  In the game the Hermes could launch three flights of four fighters against each wave of bombers, and since the bombers in the game which come in threes act much like the bombers in this minis, the fighters should be relative as well.

the Bad part about having such a nice AA Umbrella is well, each ship is supposed to be "escorted" not escorting each other.

I seem to remember reading about Iowa class BB's being used specifically for AA cover for other ships somewhere.  So I don't think it would be a stretch.  The real question is, does it upset the balance of the scenario?  Has anyone tried it?

This is why the Missouri has Heavy Anti-Air.  With the Aircraft Carrier becoming the main naval unit, the BBs the USN invested in were used as AA escorts for the carriers, you can put a crap load of AA on a ship that size.

To Captain Morevo:
I have played the Battlestations: Midway game.  That scenario is fun, but where does three flights of 4 equal three flights of about 25?  Maybe give Hermes base one with Fighter Cover 5?  Either that or I suppose you could make the AA on the Hurricanes a 4 or 5 and stick with 3 of them.  That or just give Hermes Fighter Cover 5 x 3!  Smile
As for the escorts, I understand that you are supposed to put 2 DDs with each BB, but unless that is stated, the best way to get the BBs across would be to put them together with one DD escort.  For two people who know what you want, it will work, but if you play against more of a "power gamer", they will group the BBs and leave the other 3 DDs to there doom, 'cause they don't matter for the scenario.
Not trying to be too critical, I just think that 3 full flights of Hurricanes will overwhelm the Bettys.  I haven't played it yet, so I guess I shouldn't be talking.  Wink

Very cool looking as a historical scenario.

I have also played Battlestations: Midway and I have to ask in which scenario do you get the Hermes?  I played through the main story and have done most of the multiplayer scenarios but I don't ever remember seeing the Hermes in the game.  Is that in one of the fighter challenges?

*Stands up to the podium and clarifies further*
*clears throat*

The Battle Occurs in the "Aircraft Challenge" challenge 3 is against Task Force Z, you are given a pair of island bases, each with the capability of Launching Oscars, Nells, and Bettys.  The Hermes is controlled by the computer, the ships are the HMS Repulse, HMS PoW, HMS Vampire, HMS Electra, and HMS Hermes.  The Hermes forms the center of the group, with the heavier warships on either side, and the Destroyers out to the wings.

The reason that I have elected to use 3 flights of fighters (25 each, I understand, while in the game they were represented by 4) is because in the game the Fighters could act as separate threats against three enemy flights, and generally shot them down with disgusting capability.

That explains it, I haven't done the aircraft challenges!  In fact, come to think of it I don't think I've done any of the challenges...Thanks!
