Very impressive map work, Red Baron.  I'm not sure what size is A3, but if you can do anything that will print on 8 1/2 x 11 inch or 8 1/2 x 14 inch paper I would be most grateful.  I play with 3-D terrain, but a good map is just as important for creating historical 3-D terrain as it is for hex based terrain.

I plan to study your order of battle in order to compare it with one I have developed for the counterattack of DeGaulle's 4th DCR on May 17 at Montcornet and Lislet.

I look forward to further word on your project.

Well, doing some research on the internet, came across this:

A3 paper = 297 x 420 millimeters (11.69 x 16.54 inches)

I am not sure about the inches but it should be correct.

I will divide the map into A3 parts so it is easier to print. You will still need the AutoCAD software (but that is not a problem, there are freeware software which open DWG files or look for AutoCAD on torrents). I will think about how I can eliminate the need for this specific software... in order to make such maps.
I will return and post the new "easier to print" map and some pics from the testing game. But as I said, in the following days.

Operation Adjacent was a First Try at doing a Scenario... Now with this experience I have done another that has as a historical background the DDAY landings. Probably this new scenario I will enter in the ForuminiOlimpic event, so look for that there.

Thanks everybody for looking.

best regards,

Idea
I have the large (size and dimension) JPG file that is the base of the map for this Scenario - the photo with the terrain taken from satellite (clear photo, no hexes, just the terrain).

If someone has a better method of placing the hexes over the photo (in order to generate an AAM map) I am willing to post that JPG.

As promised I return to post the map for this scenario that can be printed in A3** format paper.
Here are the steps you must follow:

1. Download the "zip" file with the scenario map. (check it for viruses), here is the link (it is called "bethemont_v1_A3 - Standard.zip"):
http://www.mediafire.com/?shareke...0d0d290dca69ceb5ce04e75f6e8ebb871

2. Open the "dwg" file with AutoCAD* software.

3. After opening the file go to FILE toolbar and choose Plot (or CTRL+P). In the window that opens choose your Printer and Paper Size (A3** or equivalent in inches) and in the drop box "what to plot" choose option WINDOW (this enables you to choose what part of the map you will print first). Choose the first orange rectangle, then print it by hitting OK in the dialog box. After this repeat this step by printing the second rectangle and so on.
The map was divided into 16 rectangles that can be printed in smaller type of paper, meaning A3.

________________________
*AutoCAD software opens the DWG files (as this map is), usually this software must be payed... but you know, for printing a few sheets you can find it on torrents. Else, there are a few software programs that are free and can open DWG files, but cant remember their names and never used them.
**A3 type of paper I believe is 11.69 x 16.54 inches. Check if your printer can print this type of paper (smaller ones can't).

I really do hope this helps.
Future questions or comments pls leave them here on this topic.

regards,

PS= the blue lines are due to a House Rule that I use in my games and also to point out exactly how the Road axis is; they can be deleted from the Map (if you wish) by simply picking them with the cursor and pressing DELETE button from your keyboard. Do this after you opened the "dwg" file, see pt.2

So, at last I can post a few pics from today's game!
It was a difficult win for the Axis, quite difficult, unfortunately we were 3 players (2 Axis and 1 Allied) so the Allied player had "a busy" day but did manage very good.

The French deployment:

The Objective town of Bethemont and a few British units blocking the road to it:

22nd Panzer finds a gap in the defensive line and tries to break through:

The Pzkw 38(t) and the Sdkfz 222 race through the gap, while infantry and the P3 F try to infiltrate also:

The 38(t) and the 222 reach the town outskirts:

SS Division "Parsifal" deals with the Exp British Force and closes the circle on Bethemont:

It was a very good game, 22 Panzer lost a P2 ausf F, the G18 artillery piece and some infantry along with the Light Mortar, the Raid of the Me110 disrupted the British 2 Pounder while escaping the AA fire of the Bofors, while the SS Division Parsifal lost the Sdkfz 251 and some infantry.

Most valuable unit for 22 Panzer was the 38(t) incredibly good, better than the P3 F. Also the German Hero helped a lot in a difficult moment while creating the "hole" in the French line of defense.

The Allied player lost the Panhard a little early in the game, while the Somua was cornered in the end and destroyed.

So, this was our game, I played the 22 Panzer Afrika Korps obviously, the game lasted 10 turns until the Allies surrendered. We played for 6 hours and I can't wait playing it again. It was a real good simulation, very realistic with regards to what happened in 1940 in France.

Best Regards,

Looks really really cool. Is there a chance that you release the map with 2" hexes as well? Or can i somehow print the map (A4 instead A3 maybe?) that these hexes fit something around 2"?

well, 2" hexes are like...the ones in the new maps (39-45 set)? if yes, then this is 2". See how the tanks fit into the hexes (all Vehicles are v2).

If you are from Austria, that is EU, I could send you the a printed map if you want. I have two. One is lend-lase to a friend for some testing but after I  get it back... I can send it to you.

@General Hoth,

Thank you. I appreciate your opinions Smile

Gah!  That's awesome with the maps.  I wasn't sure they would work but seeing your pics it looks like the maps are very functional.  I might have to see about getting my local group to play this out.

Hey Baron,

that is a very kind offer from you. Unfortunately no, the 1939-45 maps are maps with 3" hexes. They were 2" on all previous V1.0 scale maps and since i play with 1:144 minis only the older 2" hexes were perfect for me.
Well, do you have still acess to a plotter? If yes, could you send this map, if you want to, to general hoth and print this awesome map for me in 2" again and i transfer the money for the printing costs to your bank account ? Or i have a lot of A&A v2.0 minis left if you like these better and we can trade.

edit: from google: 3 Zoll = 7,62 cm; 2 Zoll = 5,08 cm

@ Gen Hoth and Westentaschenschlachti

Let's do it in this way if you people agree:

1. I will send my 3" map (hexes as in 39-45 maps, for v2 play) to Gen. Hoth who will "buy" me a dinner if ever I will be in those parts. If I am not mistaking, he said he owns a restaurant in France. I will try to send out the map at the end of the next week, then the 2nd map must return to me.

2. I will transform this map in 2" (I can do it, just have to change in ACAD the size of the hexes), printed out and then send it to you, Westentaschenschlachti.
In return I ask you these:

a) please give me some time, because here in Romania are the Easter Holidays and until I return to work (to access the plotter) it may take a week or so.

b) do you have a reason to have such a long nickname? Razz I must copy/paste it.

c) IF in the future we will trade units, then you can add to the trade something in return for the map.

d) you must say you are sorry because Austria beaten the Crap out of Romania in the Football WC Qualifiers, 2 weeks ago Very Happy That still hurts you know Smile)

As a side note: I was going to send Gen. Hoth (but this further down the "road") my DDAY scenario that will be a blast. I think he is from Normandy, so... it would have been a good match so to speak.
=============

Maybe some of you will ask "why I was offering you the map"... just to be clear, for me is a pleasure to share this stuff, right now I have access to this plotter and I can plot stuff for free... don't know for how long, but for now it's Ok. And I know it is annoying to see the scenario, like it and not be able to have the map. So that is why we will fix this problem.

From now on I will use the PM function to contact you Westentaschenschlachti on this specific matter, also Gen. Hoth, I will need a PM in which you must specify where you want me to send the map (a postal address or something).

Best Regards,

Okay, the last time i spam here in the scenario thread about the printed map. From now i'll write by pm only.

2a) Super, fantastic, magnifique, aaarriva. Thats more i could hope for. Thank you!

b) A reason besides making forummembers crazy and giving the copy/paste buttons some reason for its existance? No! Why?  Laughing

c) I dont play with A&A miniatures anymore and therefore its unlikely that we accidently have a trade in near future. So, PLZ, feel free to look at my (still) existing tradelist somewhere here in the forums. Its not up to date and a lot is sold yet, but you may like some units and i would be glad to send you some of them in return.

d) Oh yeah baby, that was a nice game  Laughing I can remember the day of the game lolz...i wanted to write something in one of your threads but finally i decided no to because i didnt know if you are soccerfan or not. And i dont want to put salt in any wounds, but what was wrong with your men? I mean hey...defeated by Austria's soccer team...usually only Liechtenstein and Monaco are afraid when they hear our name  Rolling Eyes  Laughing

D-day? Sounds cool as well. Hm maybe we can add more scenarios for this already existing satellite map from Bethemont. It could be a city in the ukraine too, dont you think?

Well, this is not spam - you can post whatever is related to this scenario... i think the Mods and Admin agree.

Yes, I also wanted to say that some new scenarios on this map can be developed and would be a great addition... I am so busy with the DDAY scenario, that developing a second scenario for this map is a distant task. And then there are the real life duties Razz

Do you play AAM with FOW figures? or actually you developed some custom system based on AAM and FOW? and you use hex maps.

About "the trade"... usually when I offer things I do not want anything in exchange. I propose that we wait you receive the 2" map and then... what can I say, you may send me any unit you don't need, but do not worry about that. Maybe you wont like the map  and you can send it back Smile)

my little spam: about the Soccer team, crap coach that doesn't want to call the best players, but players that have certain managers... we are a latin country... that says a lot Smile)

Okay, when i receive the map i'll think about a late war scenario. JSII's and Kingtigers become never boring  Cool

As for the minis i use: you can look at this thread. http://aaminis.myfastforum.org/about5790.html
I've posted some pics a time ago and it shows the 12mm or 1:144 minis (A&A is 15mm or 1:100; v1.0 is about 1:120) in action.

Spamalarm: Your coach is still working for Romania? I thought after the inferiour game against the Serbs he was close to be fired and the game against Austria probably didnt change that.
