Post subject: Set IX: Early War: Confirmed Units (Nov. 18th, 2009)
|
|
|
WotC is trying for a late Nov. 2009 release, but it's probably going to be Dec. 2009 at best. Its theme will be Early War. Mainly 1939-41. Maybe also 1942.
GENERAL INFORMATION
---------------
There will be 50 units in the set.
There will be 9 reprints, all V2.
There will be a total of 4 units which are neither pure reprints nor new molds; these will likely be rescaled V1 vehicles.
There will be 37 new molds.
There will be 18 infantry-type units, including cavalry, motorcycles, and anti-tank guns.
There will be a number of Japanese and Soviet units (unidentified) which participated in Chalkin Gol.
There will be no ace aircraft in this set.
There will be no tank commanders in this set.
There will be no hero units in this set.
There will be no support units in this set.
There will be no obstacles in this set.
There will be no US unit (in any incarnation) in this set. So, no Sherman!
There will be no Chinese, Canadian, Romanian, or Hungarian units in this set.
The only newly introduced nations in this set will consist of Belgium, South Africa, and Slovakia.
It appears that there will be a total of three artillery pieces in this set; one French, one Polish, and one Italian.
All units in this set (with two exceptions) will have action dates which fall within 1939-1941. The two exceptions will have action dates of 1942. Thus, there will be no units with 1943-1945 action dates.

Yes! No Americans for once! As soon as I saw the Morane-Saulnier MS.406, I knew this is going to be my favorite set. _________________

Could the M-S 406 be a Finnish unit? - this would leave space for D520 for France... _________________ [img.]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/db/Animated_gun_turret.gif[/img]

Hehe, that's wishful thinking. No way we get Finnish aircraft so quickly. I'm sure it's the French one, because M2A0 was replying to a question about French aircraft and I don't think he would reply with a French-built aircraft used by the Finnish in this set. _________________

So quickly? Come on, it won't hurt to include the Winter War in this set. _________________

I'm going to go with infantry, vehicles, tanks, and planes. There might even be some artillery in there.
Sorry to be a wise guy but it's 10 months away, still dealing with the disappointment of 24 reprints in set VIII. I will also be dealing with the joy of 30+ new units of set VIII. _________________

A B-239 would make so happy! But I've learned to expect little . _________________

Neural, wtf is happening in Greece? It is not clear from the TV news... I find it strange that from killing one guy a whole country is in revolt?

Forgive me if my research is not accurate. My library is not so very extensive. But what I do know I will discuss.
Germany:
Ju-87B or D
Pz-35(t)
Pz-38(t)A or F (in my book it would be a new model if rescaled)
Not so sure about the Pz I but surely the Pz II D or F model
Did I mention the Ju-87B or D
PzJgd I
StuG IIIB
SIG IB
Bf-109b
PSW 222 or the 231 II would like the rescale)
Pz III G or H
Pz C or D (a rescale is needed)
Hungary:
Me-109e
Pz 38(t)A (rescale and a repaint would be just as sweet)
StuG IIIB
75mm or the 105mm
5cm PaK
Romania:
IAR 80 or P.24
R2 or R35 (a repaint would be ok, so would a rescale)
IAR 81
37mm or 47mm FlaK
75mm or 100mm
PSW 222 or 231
USSR:
I-16, La-GG-3, MiG-1 or 3
Il-2 or P-39D
BT-5 or 7 (again, a rescale would be most welcome)
Guards
A rerun of the support and obstacle units would be sweet. Can’t con anyone into swapping with me.
As a basic note: All nations should have at the minimum, infantry, machine gun, mortar, non-com. officer, anti tank, artillery, tank, anti aircraft, aircraft, and tactical bomber if they had one. I realize this cannot be achieved right away when only 45 or 60 minis are being printed, but to work towards this is what I ask from you.
Poland, Finland, Norway, Belgium, and the Netherlands should all be shown some love, Italy also though so far they are pretty competitive on their own. |

I'm guessing but Panzer I's and II's maybe III's. An early T-34/76, 88mm flak, probably plenty of polish units to go around. Lots of planes idk. _________________

We are overdue for a Panzer I, and another Panzer II would be alright. Panzerjager I is also a must. _________________

Mh. Let's have a look at my small "Panzer der Wehrmacht 1933-45" book.
Ok. I would like to see:
- Borgward B IV Ausf. A Sd. Kfz. 301
- PzKpfw. I Ausf. A or B <- most missing for early missions
- PzKpfw. II B
- PzKpfw. III D or F
- PzKpfw. IV B or better D
- Panzerjaeger I
- Sturmgeschuetz III A-D
- Sturmpanzer I and II
- 60cm Moerser Geraet 40/41 Thor _________________ Moin! Sorry for my English but we are talking "Plattdeutsch" in my region |

there will be no US unit in this set. |
You forgot that M2A0 confirmed a Russian Fighter in the set. _________________

Yes! Finally some French and Russian air cover, and a suitable Polish tank.
Now if they could only make that Japanese spotter... _________________

Hurray! So far it sounds great (though you never know with WotC). No U.S. for once; my Soviets finally get some air cover, as do the French; Polish get their "heavy" tank.
As for the Finns, if they're even included in Early War, I concur with Field Marshal PF: give them an F2A Brewster Buffalo. The plane itself more or less stunk, but in the hands of the Finnish pilots it took a devastating toll on Russian planes. Should have bad attacks but great defence and some sort of attack-modifying SA perhaps.....just an idea.
As for the Italians, IMHO one or two units might be in order. I am hoping/wishing for:
- either L3/35 Lancia fiamme (flamethrower), or L3/35 w/20mm Breda or Solothurn gun
- Cannone-Mitragliera da 20/77 (Scotti)--flak gun
- Italian Folgore Paras
- Fiat truck
That's just me though.
Hopefully the Early War will be better than the Eastern Front. I have already decided that I am not buying any Eastern Front boosters, but am going to pick up the units that I need (mainly rares) singly if I can, either off the internet, Ebay, or through trades. Since many units were reprints I don't really need them.
Btw, I am a new member of these great forums, and am also PantherDude3000's older brother.
Regards!
