Magnificent. This is beyond what I thought possible at this scale. Impressive. Kongo is one of my favorite ships, so it was a pleasure to see it worked to such detail. Well done and thanks for sharing!
Do you use the airbrush for priming, or do you mask and outercoat with it? I had never considered an airbrush at this scale.

Thanks!

I airbrush the whole thing, primer that is, then let it cure for 24-48hrs. Helps prevent lifting later.

Once it's all primed then I mask off and paint the lower hull, then mask it off to avoid overspray. Then I paint the decks, then go back and do the hull sides and superstructure. Later I cut in with the brush, tidy up, and add my AK washes

I thought you cool cats might be interested in some photos I took along the way:

Original 3D model

Some railings attached

You can see I originally added the accommodation ladder platforms with full intent to build said ladders but they looked too big, so I removed the platforms and stowed them. Also, I had originally started it as a 1944 fit but backdated to 1941 because I wanted to add a second radio aerial support tower on the third turret. I like the look better. So, radar had to go.

Amazing work!  My hands will never be steady enough to pull that off!

What kind of adhesive do you use for the wires, antennas and rails?

Thick CA. I like the fast curing time. Does make it tricky to refit, but I bend everything to shape before I glue thougj

Incredible work. I have seen similar in 1/1200-1250 scale, but never at 1/1800. That takes it to a whole new level.

That is amazing work. Do you take commissions? I would pay you so much money.

I've done commissions in the past sure. Just depends on what you're after. Waterline ships are far easier to do with this level of detail, once I get into scratch building hulls etc, it gets kinda pricey. Lemme know and we can talk.

I don't need riggings, masts or railings. Just need a fresh coat of paint. Let me gather up a list of minis and I'll PM you.

Added a few tiny details, mostly stuff I'd just been too busy to do. The bow crysanthymum, rudder position signals on the mainmast, and the aft position lights on the starboard side. Also the ship's name plate is also done.

That about wraps it all up. Nothing left to do on this one.

Short version is that the host of this site was closing down so people have mostly migrated over there.
