Post subject: EK's Advanced Rules: Class Initiative
|
|
|
Reposted from the old AH forums...
SURFACE MOVEMENT PHASE
Units have their movement split into two steps: first they move in the General Movement step, and later in a step according to their speed class. Note that units with Speed 1 (e.g. submarines, most crippled units, and units that fail their Slow roll) may only move in the General Movement step.
Step 1: General Movement
The player with lower initiative moves each of his surface units up to one sector, regardless of speed. The player with higher initiative then does the same. From this point on, all units are considered to have spent one movement point, regardless of whether they moved or not.
Step 2: Slow Movement
The player with lower initiative may spend the remaining movement point(s) of each of his units with the Slow SA, as well as Auxiliary units. The player with higher initiative then does the same.
Step 3: Carrier Movement
The player with lower initiative may spend the remaining movement point(s) of each of his Carriers. The player with higher initiative then does the same.
Step 4: Battleship Movement
The player with lower initiative may spend the remaining movement point(s) of each of his Battleships. The player with higher initiative then does the same.
Step 5: Cruiser Movement
The player with lower initiative may spend the remaining movement point(s) of each of his Cruisers. The player with higher initiative then does the same.
Step 6: Destroyer Movement
The player with lower initiative may spend the remaining movement point(s) of each of his Destroyers. The player with higher initiative then does the same.
Step 7: Torpedo Boat Movement
The player with lower initiative may spend the remaining movement point(s) of each of his Torpedo Boats. The player with higher initiative then does the same. _________________

Does anyone use these movement rules regularly, because they look really promising.
Makes the ship movement a little bit more interactive, sort of like the air placement phase.
What I like the most about it is that it takes into account the slight speed difference in general between battleships, cruisers and destroyers. So, I imagine itīs easier to keep cruisers away from the big guns and destroyers get a slightly more bite against subs. |

We always use them, and never look back to the basics Though I guess that doesn't count

That's the idea. Unfortunately, since these were originally conceived before the Harassment rules were introduced, the two won't combine too well (subs suffer a lot). I'd propose replacing the Harassment rules with the Hidden Subs rules. Those work great in combination with these. _________________

In support of this system, I can quote Richard Baker from the old forum (you can still visit it btw):
| Quote: | | Cruisers generally ought to have a speed edge over battleships so that they can choose to engage or decline engagement. Unfortunately, the game's too grainy to distinguish between a 32-knot cruiser and a 29-knot battleship. In real life that cruiser could haul out of danger pretty quickly, but no so in the game. If this really bugs you, the best patch is probably the use of a "staggered" movement sequence where lighter ships get to move after bigger ships. It would be the easiest fix for you. |

It got fixed. For a little while it just had the blue box with a white question mark in it. But never mind. _________________ I have to make a new sig because my old one is too wide for this new look... |

I am assuming that if I roll poorly and the SLOW ability kicks in that I could not move in step 2. Also if an Auxiliary has speed 1 it only moves in step 1? _________________ formerly Polish_Horsy on A&A minis website

That's correct.
Also, I'm shamelessly stickying this thread to follow the trend _________________
