This could go either here or WaS General, but I'll put it here to liven up the section. A guy at the LGS dreamed this up, and I quote:
Rules: Standard map sizes and deployment zones. Three objective markers
worth 50 points each. Additional points for killing the enemy fleet
elements. Ten turn max on the games. Three rounds of play for the
tournament. Winner is determined by who has the most points after the
three rounds.
Fleets are 100 points, single nationality (the smaller fleet lists will
be allowed to combine with other nationalities on an 'Axis/Allied' basis
as determined by the incessant bickering of old men).
Round two: players will be allowed to add 50 points to their fleets. If
you won round 1, you add the 50 points to your round 1 fleet list (and
just because you may have had 96 points for round 1 doesn't mean you get
to add 54 points for round two). If you lost round 1, you are required
switch nationalities and rewrite your entire fleet list.
Round three: fleet sizes rise another 50 points, same rules as round
two. Winners from round 2 add 50 points to previous lists, losers get
to fresh-build their fleet to a total of 200 points.
Opponents will be chosen randomly, with the only proviso being that
there will not be repeat opponents. I picked this method over a basic
tournament tree because it makes things more interesting, and panders to
my chaotic nature. This way makes it more likely for previous winners
to play against previous losers, and the restrictions on the winner's
fleet reinforcements (and lack of restrictions on the loser's fleet
build) will make for some more varied fleet mixes, not to mention it can
potentially make it much harder to continue winning.
We played this tonight, and it was really fun. For prizes, the guy who dreamed this up picked up 2 booster boxes. We opened them up, and the player with the most points after the 3 rounds (me, actually) picked one unit. Then the second-highest player picked a unit, and so on. Because we only had 6 players tonight, the top 4 went back after everyone had picked and got 1 more unit. This was a really fun little tourney, and the final scores were:
Me: 685
Dco2US: 654
Fellblade: 605
jim.agee: Somewhere around 500
2 more players who haven't joined this forum yet played, and they netted around 400 points.
I would really recommend this mode of tourney to all LGSs. _________________ I have to make a new sig because my old one is too wide for this new look... |

Maybe I'll start it up after the DM is done. I'd probably take a break from playing, but would be willing to provide the prizes. _________________ I have to make a new sig because my old one is too wide for this new look... |

So did you play 10 turns or until you killed the other fleet, which ever comes 1st? Or did you stop at 150 points?
Also, did you award an additional 50 points if all surface ships were sunk?
Did the old men ever stop bickering? _________________ TimK

A) We decided to ignore that part. First person to score the required number of VPs at the end of a turn ended the game.
B) Yes
C) No. They're navy. What'd you expect? _________________ I have to make a new sig because my old one is too wide for this new look... |
